Hi i have had my ssv wagon for about 3 months now and im looking at getting an otr for it, just wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere to get a mafless tune done in Adelaide and what i should expect to pay ? Also I am looking at getting a full exhaust including extractors and understand that hearders require a tune aswell. Should i get the exhaust at the same time as the otr and can I then just do one tune or are they two completely different types of tune and I will still need to pay 2 tunes ?

Hey mate. Best to look up the sponsors in S.A and give them a call. Everyone has their preferred tuner (tuna) so see what they all say and go from there.

It's best to get all your bolt on mods first then get it tuned. Or get OTR and mafless tune and down the track get the exhaust done and get a touch up tune however obviously you'll pay a bit extra for the touch up.

Cheers Matt

Whether you go to LS1.Edit or KPM, they can do all for you. You are right about the tuning though. If you can afford to get it all done at the same time, then that would be better, or else just get your exhaust sorted, and then at a later stage get your tune done.
Fitting headers doesnt require a tune. Or a full system for that matter. With a tune though, it will be a huge improvement.

dont know who told you that, when i had my exhaust system fitted,it made my tune very lean,so lean it kept the timing on the bottom table the whole time.so from personal experience you will need a tune after exhaust.

Don't listen to the people suggesting mail orders. They are always a compromise because they have to account for the lowest common car. Martin is one of the best tuners in the country. SA is lucky to have him. Plus I believe he does free touch ups for later mods.

Ive had 2 different systems on my car and neither time did I get it tuned. Car ran the same as it did before the system went on, just louder and a bit more pick-up.
None of my previous cars ever were tuned either, and all had systems fitted.
So, from my personal experience, you wont need a tune after exhaust.:)

Go see Martin and Gareth they will sort u out. Gareth has recently fitted a Dus OTR to my Maloo when I got all my Mods and tune done. I would recommend getting all ya Mods done and tune at the same time.
If u want a KPM exhaust u dont have to deal with KPM u can deal with Mark at Exhaust Technology(next door to KPM) and where the exhaust are made(ask not to get the KPM tips). Either get Mark to fit it or just get it fitted at LS1 Edit.

Correct, thanks guys, and thanks for blowing out some of the industry myths :)
We have never charged for touch up tunes, and were happily fitting Exhaust Technology exhaust systems (the shiny stainless ones sold under many names now) back in the early VX Files Street Commodores build up on my own car in 2002....long before some of the other big names even existed and can still do them now at market leading prices

MAF tune, Closed Loop.. You don't NEED a touch up, even MAFLESS, Closed Loop you can more or less get away with it but the upper echelon tables that are never updated by the o2's will still lean out. MAFLESS, Open Loop, a touch up is pretty much mandatory unless there was alot of fat in the tune prior.

Personal experience is one thing. Knowing how these controllers work is another.

Car was untuned before system went on. So it was stock. So there was no problem. Car was still untuned after system went on.
Car only got a mail order tune put in after several months.
So maybe you need the tune touched up if you already have it tuned, when fitting a system. In my case I didnt, which is all I can account for.:teach::)

One more place that should definitely not be overlooked is Hi-Tech Dyno.
John Keen is brilliant, since going with him I haven't turned back.
He is the team mechanic for Gary Baxters Brute ute also if you need anything to persuade you to have a speak with him.

My vote goes to Martin and Gareth.

It's been 5 months since they did my car and I'm still like a 14 year old with porno every time I turn the key.

I am amazed we havent seen you back for a tune on United 100 octane Simon....Im tipping the VE should go close to 330rwkw on the Mainline when tuned for that fuel

hmmmmm .... 330rwkw Martin???? .... there's that feeling in my shorts again that my wife tells me is unatural!!! She's just jealous!

My problem is that I have a BP and Shell card for work ... I need to have a chat with our salary packaging mob and see if I can get a united card or fleetcard.

How will it run on 98 if you tune it for 100 Octane? Not many united's in the hills so I can see that happening.

G'day guys,

Some great advice here.

I'm also in Adelaide and will shortly be looking to get some work done to the Clubby. (So far just a stainless 2.5inch cat back exhaust and a rip shifter) ... I'll be looking around for an OTRCAI and Mafless tune, hopefully this will wake it up a bit!

Cheers!

Hi RRR888, can't go past Martin at ls1 for a top quality tune every one has there preferred tuner but i would highly recommend him, by the way what do you think of the ripshift. Cheers Ian.

Hi Hurricane,

Thanks for that mate. I think when the time comes I will definitely be having a chat to one of the forum sponsors. Obviously there are alot of different options regarding tunes etc - So it helps to have an idea who those in the game trust and recommend.

As for the ripshifter, I have to say I couldn't be happier with it. It's got a very positive feel when changing through the gears- makes the car so much nicer to drive. I haven't done any track work, but it seems to handle the odd 'enthusiastic' gear change with no drama's at all :)

Cheers

Hi RRR888, yes there are lots of top quality tuners in Adelaide but i have had Martin do all my tunes which have been great, where abouts you located we could catch up and i'll take for a run in my clubbie which has had Martins tune and you can see what you think. Cheers Ian.

Hi RRR888

I went to all of the main tuners in SA ... most of them very good ... BUT the minute I walked into Willall and spoke with Martin and Gareth I knew they were who I was going to use and I had every confidence that I was going to be happy with their work.

Apart from the fact that the workshop looks as clean as an operating theatre ... they were straight up, professional and told me what i would get for my money at each level of spend. There was no attempt to upsell me or push me in a particular direction. Just a conversation about what I wanted and then a recomendation.

If you grab a copy of the latest Street Commodores, (edition with the morpheus VE on front cover) there is an article in there on the work they did on they did on my car (Red VE) and the results. Should give you an idea of the very high calibre of their work.
