hi all,

Im looking at buying a second hand LS3 crate motor. Im new to the world of crate motors so i just had a couple of questions, sorry if they seem overly stupid haha.

Do all crate motors come with a standard-type engine number stamped on the block? Or do they come blank and get stamped at a later date? Is checking this the easiest way to determine of it is indeed an LS3 crate motor? Where do you cross reference an engine number to ensure the number is what it should be?

If anyone feels the need to flame me for stupid questions, atleast answer them before giving me shit pleeease... :eyes:

i am unsure buy i am going to have a stab in the dark and say that you have to apply for one at the transport dept. or it should come with one.

I thought crate motors were typically new motors?

I could very well be wrong, but can you even get second hand crate motors?

It was bought as a brand new crate motor, and the person is now selling it, still unused it would seem.

engine numbers wont be a problem, if it hasnt got one even better just stamp yours onto it.
it will have 6.2 on the front of the block.

Anything from Holden will have a Holden engine number. From the US as Nick states they dont come with anything as a regular engine is VIN coded when it is married to the car body there during production.

My bro in law bought a block from the US and the license dept issue the engine number. Also crate motors are only brand new ie never been used / still in the crate haha

yes i get that, but i could go out and buy one brand new from the states. Then decide i dont want it and sell it, thus a 2nd hand crate motor. It was through a private seller, not a company advertising 2nd hand crate motors.

doesnt really matter now, the ad i was looking at has dissapeared.

you can buy a product brand new, not open it or use it and technically its "second hand" but its still "new" if it has'nt been used...if that makes sence!!!!

It only becomes second hand when its been operated or used...

Anyway if the adds dissapeared it doesnt matter....

Makes total sense, as thats exactly what it was. Second hand but new condition. Still second hand in my eyes, and in his, as it was advertised as second hand still.

Where can i get an LS3 does anyone know?! Holmart cant be the sole supplier in aus surely.
