Over ther past few months the local council and Vicroads have been turning one of the currently 3 lanes (Both directions) into a BUS lane. Does this mean
that the buses now have a lane to use once every 15 minutes all to themselves. If so, then for the sake of that one bus in peak hour many hundreds of cars are now pushed back into two lanes. Just doesn't seem right when we are all about reducing greenhouse gas emissions, using less petrol and saving people from road rage, all of which is guaranteed if the above is correct. I seem to recall years ago there was talk about doing this and at the time the word was that everyone could use the BUS lane but they had to give way to BUSES when they were present.

Yep, its got me fuming. They'll turn it into a bus lane... Waiting to see what the signs say, but chances are during peak times it will bus lane only.
To quote Jemery Clarkson.. "Why do the poor have to get to where there going faster than I"?
He has a point, centrelink is open all day... so why cant they just go then? :flipoff:

It's been happening for a long time. A lot of the new bus lanes were purpose built though and have not removed a lane previously used by cars. They were just unsealed sections that they have now sealed and made bus lane only. I doubt there will be a "peak hour" ruling though, they will be dedicated bus lanes 24/7.
Simon.
And yes, I have seen the rule being enforced.....

No different to the off road bus stops being removed from springvale rd, apparently the bus drivvers sooked up it was too hard to pull out, now they get to stop in the left lane.
At the end of the day it's done to piss people off so they get onto Eastlink...generating revenue!

I drive my truck down Stud rd every morning (mon-fri) as the traffic slows heading down the hill towards Wellington rd there is always cars driving down the bus only lane I have never seen the boys in blue enforcing it in this direction.
but when coming the other way between kellets and wellington i have seen them hiding in the carpark at the servo and pulling cars over,i wonder would they issue a fine or would you get a warning?

The really frustrating thing is it would be great to be able to use public transport, but to get from home to work each day takes 1.5 hours each way
(add 3 hours to your work day) and I already start work when it is dark and get home when it is dark. Plus just as a bonus, I need a car to go to work sites each day, so public transport is out. As for Eastlink, it is no quicker for me to get from home to work in the morning and it is 1 or 2 minutes quicker at night getting home. It really pisses me off that one vehicle every 15 minutes gets its own dedicated lane whilst the average punter has to sit in traffic and watch the world go by. And I know the same situation occurs on Springvale Road. The whole system is a joke. Sitting on the Monash Freeway
(CARPARK) is the same, I really pity those people that have no choice but to crawl to work on something that is named a freeway. Another joke.
MEH.. They are trying to force people to use the Freeway and pay tolls instead of of ducking down Stud Road which runs parallel to the freeway until it hits the freeway anyway... It's all about $$$ people.. I used to travel down it to Kellets Road to work every morning before the freeway and it was stuffed...

I like buses having their own lane, stops you from having to take evasive action everytime they pull out from their stops with no warning :vpo:
BUT i hate the fact they keep reducing our lanes to do so.
