View Full Version : WA - LS1 Forum Cruise & BBQ April

Evening Ls1 forum junkies.
Is anyone keen for a cruise & bbq on a Sunday in April?
April this year has 3 public holidays, those being:
Good Friday -2nd
Easter Monday - 5th
Anzac Sat/Sun - 25/26.
So we have a choice of running it over a long weekend or on one of the normal weekend dates of the 11th or 18th.
My own personal preference would be to do it over a easter long weekend.
Start Point would be Cockburn Central at 9AM for a 9:35 Departure (exact starting point would come at later date)
I wont give out too many clues as to where the cruise will head except to say it will finishing up at North Dandulup Dam by 12~1pm as there is a few self contained BBQ cookers, ample parking & grass for those with Kids.
Thoughts?

I've just done the map and if your up for a nice long one with a few twisty roads, you should really enjoy this.
It's quite long (Until i do a test run, i'd say atleast 200km all up) and of course includes a run through the tunnell.

Yeah, plus people tend to go away on long weekends. So i have chosen the 18th now.
The roads we will be going on will be good for those who are a little more liberal with their excellerator pedal. ;)
Though i will re-iterate on the day, IT IS NOT A RACE and as such there is a Regroup Point Half way through the map.
Sounds good to me... I'll be up for a drive :)

I say it because some of the parts will most likely be out of mobile range and if your car struggles to do 300km's to a tank of fuel with some spirited driving then dont come crying on the forums because you ran out and werent warned.
p.s not targeting you mate, just warning everyone. Especially If i can do it with a blown 6lt ute with a 65lt tank and still have spare fuel.
I'm going to do another test run of the map this weekend in the ve, which is a bit heavier to see how long it takes me and how much fuel it uses and to make sure my directions / roads are correct.

Like you, I'll be there sporting the very latest in front spoiler damage.. Car goes in on the Monday to fix.. Which is a great thing as any little stone chips will be magically fixed the next day :-)
Looking forward to going for a nice drive in the country side..

What sort of roll up are you expecting ?? Why I ask ?? visited a "show and shine" the other week and was a bit disappointed, my wifes and I expectations seemed to be a bit way off. Used to get involved in car displays many years ago and we thought it could be interesting to see whats out there now.
Still sort of interested though!! REF "Mitch knows of my previous antics"

It's not a car show by any means, basically allows long term and new members to get togethor for a nice long cruise and have a casual BBQ lunch & shoot the shit.
While im not advocating it to be a high speed run, for those that may want to have a bit of a squirt here and there, they can do so at their own discretion.
As long as people dont disregard the most basic of road rules, everyone will be safe.

Ok, ran the cruise map today to make sure there was no errors.
I tried to stick to the limit as much as possible (for a worst case time) and it took me roughly 2.5hrs from start point to BBQ area.
Roads will be quite fun up in the hills that's for sure.
Total distance was about 220km's.

I hope everyone enjoyed the run as much as i did. Quite happy with the new suspension mods in the rear as it kept nice and tight on corners.
for those who missed out, im looking to run another around augest/september with a stop to a pub/cafe as the end point.

Yep, two decent chips in windscreen, and my front bar is trashed from stone chips from chasing... er I mean following Dave. :bawl:
You guys definately where pace setters... In more ways than one!!
My Front bar copped a few, but luckily it goes off to the panel shop tomorrow to have the bits repaired and painted nice again.. So it was great timing for a cruise..
I arrived home here with 11.6l/100km..
I think a good set of short body shocks is my next investment..
As for leaving - myself and frank had other commitments in the afternoon.. We stayed as long as we could.. Would have loved to have stayed, chewed the fat and had a few refreshing ales..
Looking forward to next one..

Thanks for orgainisng the cruise Dave, even though I'm V8'less these days it was nice to listen to the symphony while we were driving.
Thanks Paul for allowing the extra weight in your car for the day.

Was a good cruise pretty fun on the country roads. As usual when I take my car out some thing breaks or goes wrong, I think I may have a cracked turbo manifold.the signs just keep pointing back to supercharger :hide:
He disappeared, then Drew nicked off. I think it might have been touching time in the countryside :lmao: you cunny funt!
PS - Any speculation on what happened to EXCESSV... :)it wasnt my day i tell ya!
after you pointed out the 200+mm long slit/crack in my rear sidewall, then going home to put my spare in my car and trying to catch up to everyone. on the second half got stuck in the second half of the pack, the map at one point tripped us up and just couldnt get any clean air. :vpo:
with all the hiccups i went majorly overtime and go basically to the part where was supposed to turn where the school was but had to turn around and head off to get to other personal matters.
then got caught out on the way home turned off into watkins road of something off southwest highway. not being down there before was in a rush to get home.....went over the crest of the hills that was just before the rail crossing and EXCESSV thought she could fly!!! got some air, misses said lets do it again and my spare wheel sitting on my boot floor decided to smack the bootlid then back down and well thank fuk my i have a heavier custom spring rate on my coilovers :lmao:
next time i am sticking to the front of the pack as the pace is where it suits me and alot of fun.
great cruise, great map (just needed some small tweaks to make it better)
