So i was washed the wagon this morning, and was drying the roof when the tailgate release spontaneously triggered.

Now anyone with a VE wagon would know that the tailgate can be either open, shut, or half-shut where its latched in but wont open unless you hit the button again, and the horn will beep if you try and lock the car because its still slightly open.

Well after this spontaneous incident mine was stuck half-open.
Problem being the button wouldnt work at all, and the car wouldnt lock properly because the tailgate was half open.

So i finshed drying the car, and just as i was finishing it spontaneously triggered again.

So I had to crawl through the back and use the manual release to open it, to then shut it properly so i could lock the car.

Now the tailgate button doesnt work at all. I've checked the fuse and its fine.
I spose I'll have to take it into Holden and get it looked at under warranty...

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi, I had this happen to me over Christmas time. I took it into the dealer, who said the tailgate latch was loose, and re-tightened it. Since then, i have not had a problem...Cheers

There have been a number of failures under warranty.

are you saying you press the button under the chrome strip to open it - or is there some other button?

It's not exactly a feature... another way of describing it is that it sometimes doesnt shut all the way

Just got it checked out... turns out it was the actuator that failed.

For those that may have the same problem in the future, here's a quick follow up...

The part the failed was the actuator/switch. turns out in the original part water leaked in under the chrome strip and got into the switch.

The new part includes a whole new chrome strip/switch/touch button etc.

Now here is where it got "fun"...
Once my dealer worked out what it was, they ordered a new part.

The next day they advised me that Holden's main spare parts HQ didnt have any in stock, and there was "no outlook" from the supplier, in other words an indefinate delay.

For those who may have the same issue, do the following.

Ring Holden customer care line, lodge a complaint about there being no stock.
Ring back in 3 days and ask if there is any progress (probably not), so ask for it to be escalated.
I had the state manager for parts (or something like that) call me the next day, and he tried to fob me off with the "there are none available" excuse.
So i asked "are they still producing wagons, or has production stopped"
His reply "of course they are"
My response "well if they can find parts for them, you can find me a part"

3 days later part delivered to my dealer and fitted in an hour.
