as of last week my ute has been playing up wont idle unless car is stationary then its fine, but if im driving and step on the clutch idle goes from 900-1300 not the set 690-740 also clutch pedal is a lot lower to friction point but 2 years old and wsid and wakefield i would expect that.

The two are probably not related as there are no electronics associated with the transmission. The idle problem could be due to crap in the throttle body so clean it with some commercially available cleaner. The idle air control valve could also be crook or blocked. clean both and reset your ecu. (disconnect the battery for 10 min so the idle can relearn).

As for the clutch, the pedal will not get lower with wear but higher. You may have a leaking clutch master or slave cylinder preventing you from getting full travel and hence a lower pick up point as the clutch is not released as far.

Sorry for the potentially bad news :(

Where is the idle air control valve on the L98, L76?

not sure but it should be near the throttle body somewhere. Not to be confused with the Throttle Position Sensor. I'm sure one of the VE owners here should be able to pinpoint it for you :)

thanks will have a look, not too worried about the clutch as ive had it on list of things to do as i have a bigger cam ready to install

forgot to say i cleaned the tb last week but i got my licence back on sunday and only started driving yesterday, i removed the tb again couldnt see any idle control valve as there is no hole in side tb. but when i go in engineering mode the sensor says 13.2% then clicks and jumps to 19% whene engine is off but idle is fine if i stop after driving but not rolling

There is no IAC bypass on an electronic throttle car. The blade angle is adjusted by the Computer

Still have same problem after cleaning tb

Is it stock/ tuned? Is there an airleak anywhere from manifold or other connections to it, this will cause idle to raise and pcm will try to reduce it by the throttle. Just some ideas.

its got russo otr pacies twin 3" oztrack tune but only after i cleaned the tb. also i reset the ecu this morning its still there but not as bad ill let it go for a few weeks as im going to usa next week so car will be sitting for a few weeks

Taking the throttle body off (in an E38) can sometimes setup a situation where it needs a crank angle sensor relearn. This is possibly the cause, the tune cant change and it was fine before.

How do you perform this task?

EFILive's scan tool can command it - it takes a few seconds

You been playing with the throttle body at all, ie porting if not done right they can idle high.

took it off to clean it very shit design if once removed plays up how else do u clean throttle body very hard since electric, its not worth a 1.5hr drive to scan ecu ill see if it relearns

I have swapped over plenty and haven't seen one play up because it's been unplugged yet.

Would this have anything to do with a hole in my cat as I just found this

Doubt it.

Check for vacuum leaks.

Ok this problem is really pissing me off can't find the issue Holden won't look at it as I have cut the wires on the maff for a external ait really pissing me off using heaps more fuel would it I be a exhaust leak on the cats throwing a oxygen sensor out, I'll find out next week as I'm putting new cats in

so what was it?

Probably an iat wiring issue and the TB is flowing heaps more air now for some reason. Maybe it was very dirty before or something else has changed in it.

I also have a VE Ute with the same problem where it idles all over the place until the car is stationary. I first noticed the problem after fitting a MAF VCM OTR, prior to getting it tuned. It also caused the engine light to come on after a few weeks with fuel trim system lean (codes P0171 & P0174).
I then fitted some Pacemaker headers and had the car MAF tuned thinking that this would fix the idling and engine light problem. While it fixed the engine light problem it still search for idle while rolling and for a second or two after stoping. I have been back to seen my tuner about the problem (before I realised it only occurred if vehicle was moving) and it seemed to idle fine stationary sitting in the carpark. I have since noticed it only plays up if while the vehicle is moving and coming to a stop. I have downloaded a demo version of HP tuner of the net that allows you to look at/compare tunes and my tuner gave me both my stock and edited tune. I have had a look at them and with regards to idle, it doesn't look like he has touched the idle, all he has done is disable DTC's codes P0171-P0175 to stop the engine light coming on.

I am planing to go back and see my tuner and getting him to fix the problem and was after some advice as to what you guys think I should tell him to look at, if for some reason he can't figure out what is wrong!

Your help would be greatly appreciated as this problem if really bugging me.

Cheers
Chris
