I thought this might be relevant, as to what is the latest 'toolkit' options that modern Fuel Injected bikes have nowadays.
This thing works via a mobile phone!

Looks good, but i'd never take a bike with that many electronics off road in the first place.
yikes

Meh.....most dirt bikes are now coming standard with EFI and it's more reliable than having a carby - what are ya gonna do with a carby when you're stuck?
I'm using RaceChrono for GPS lap timing, lines, speeds etc, along with OBDII bluetooth module to get my TPS data like Throttle %, RPM, gear, engine temps etc, very very handy > ODBII overlays TPS data over the top of the GPS/Velocity data (with Iphone i have now) and so also good for diagnostics -ie: last NOV we raced on a 46Degree day - the bikes felt very sluggish and could see the how much the heat was having an affect on BHP.....which
Incidentely the difference for the 26degree day VS the 46 dgree day (track temps well over 60degrees) was 15kph at the end of the main straight at the Creek, lap after lap so I know it wasn't my riding...!
The tech we have access to these days is crazy. . . .

Good point. But they all have them nowadays...other than the small capacity singles off-road only types.
And what about for a longer trip?
like this: BAM road in Siberia

G650 X-Challenge + F650 Dakar + XT660
(The XT - carburetted - was constantly getting much worse fuel economy, not to mention poor fuel quality..first page will give you an indication of the road & conditions)
or this trip:
Lorella Springs - NT - via Hells gate:
K1100LT hack (did do a fuel pump though & final drive though.)

But I kinda agree with you. I sold my modern fuel injected wonder bike (at 200K +) because I was worried it would pack up miles-from-nowhere.
Not because of any electronic controller failure, or ancillaries like fuel regulators/pump etc (lets face it you could in theory take spares..) - but because of a fault in the wiring loom.
These types of bikes have a massive loom that - as all wiring looms do - degrade.
That's there biggest Achilles heel IMHO..
Can you imagine a R1200 Adventure after a few hundred thousand KM AND say 20 years old of pounding down dirt adventure roads??
Just my 2c..
