My mate is looking at upgrading from his AE92 supercharged corolla to a 04 VZ SV8.
It is stock standard with manual trans and 71 thou k's. Has the 5.7L LS1 (Is it worth trying to find a L76 6L?)
Asking price is $19,990... What do you guys think?

Seems a bit rich to me, did they make the sv8 in the vz model? Have a look around the sv8 is pretty much a executive with a v8. $20,000 will get him a nice vy ss or maybe even vz ss.

Yes they made a VZ Sv8 it could also be optioned with ss bodykit, leather interior sunroof etc etc same as what options the=at were on the SS

According to Carsales valuations you'll probably pay up to $5k more for a 6.0 SV8 (2006 only) but they have an SS type body kit and the 6.0 responds much better to mods than the 5.7.

I'd say go for it.
I've got a VZ 5.7 SV8 and it eats the SS because its lighter.....:goodjob:

Ok so if he can get a newer car for the same price as you sold your vy for then he's getting an ok deal :-) i've linked him to this thread so he can post more info :-)

I'd say go for it.
I've got a VZ 5.7 SV8 and it eats the SS because its lighter.....:goodjob:
By all of about 15kg......hardly an advantage. If the SV8 driver has a big brekky they'd be about on par. :stick:

Too rich mate, i've seen some VZ SS' go for around the 20k mark. I'd personally never buy an SV8 because i like the look and luxury of an SS. My mate was recently looking at a VY SV8 ute, i talked him out of it and he bought a VY SS ute and he loves it.

i'd agree - there's not much mechanically different bw the 5.7 y and z and the luxury in a lightly modded y SS would make the difference more then worth it
if it was the 6l VZ i'd be a different story

As said by others 20Gs will get you a nice SS so keep hunting around. Will be worth it...

When I bought my VY SV8 new in early 2003 there was NO premium difference between insuring it and an SS with AAMI.

 My insurance has remained around the $800 - $900 mark for all my cars. VY SV8, two VZ SS, SSV sedan and now SSV ute (all mods listed).

they did make sV8's in the VZ model, go and check them out and compare them to the SS, the interior is much different and bodykits and whatnot, i think they are identical in performance though.

Is it private or dealer?
Private for around $15-16K and dealer $17-18K???????
You should be able to find a Calais (much nicer car but auto only) or SS (will hold value a bit better and better spec) for $20K.

04 SV8s look like Execs but 05 on they used the SS body kit.

Fair bit of misinformation in this thread so heres the facts.
05 VZ SV8s came with full SS bodykit for both 5.7 and 6.0s The exterior differences were tail lights (same design but not tinted like the SS ones) and headlights (not projectors but did have blacked out surrounds) the wheels (17s) and a slightly different wing. They also didnt get the fluted guards.
Decent set of rims and most people wouldnt know it wasnt an SS.
