Hi guys
I currently have a 2004 Monaro
Fitted a Full DF exhaust
1 3/4 Headers & high flow cat's
All 3inch stainless steel...
I am looking for a way to get more sound of the system
Dont get me wrong the system is very nice at the moment
as all DF systems are...
As the monaro is only a weeknder i want big more of a note to it with out getting a cam put in
The current system doesnt have much drone at all only when i go into a higher gear at low revs... can put up with a little drone but would like to keep to a minium...
I am thinking at the moment of getting Ballistic cats fitted as i have been told this will deepen and make the note louder
will this increse it enough u guys think? as i only have about 2 days b4 that sale ends on them...
Or is it just worth removing the middle mufflers replaceing with hotdogs.. or removing the rear mufflers....
Thanks for your help guys
(A shot of the current Set up atm)

Remove the middle mufflers & run hot dogs as Fitzy said, it'll be loud but it'll what your after. Get Darren to do it for you if your going back there to fix up your exhaust.

Yeah mate i spoke to him today, he said it sounds like it is incorrectly fitted from what ive described to him but he said to take it to his workshop so he can have a closer look. From what i could see there definatly seems to be a gap between the collector flange & the headshield, hopefully Darren can get it sorted & i wont need to go out & buy another system.

the cut outs are a butterfly valve before the cats that just open into the air.
whilst driving normally you have it closed so the full system is working.
when you want it loud, just open the valve and its got no muffler effect at all, just very very loud note.
i removed the rear resonators on my car and it made it alot louder and alot me gurglyer if thats a work, when you down sift it gurgles and sounds nuts. also apparently its alot louder from outside the car then inside.

Mines a custom job - 2.5" Stainless Steel.
Originally opened cats, straight through to Magnaflow mufflers (no resi's or middle mufflers).
Reckon theres a YouTube vid of it back then without the cam & heads and stuff.

Sounds like a mint idea man... would most exhaust places do this?
would it be a manual value buy getting up the car or?
could avoide Cop problems by doin this..
Thats what i am after bit more agressive note to it crackeling and that kinda noise with more volume....

this would have to be a custom job and some places might not do it because of the EPA results/down sides, but all the best. i think the valve will be a mechanical one with a motor and a remote switch (hidden some where nice).
i had the pleasure of seeing and hearing a 69 camaro a couple of weeks ago and it had cut outs, just nuts. this thing was insanenly loud.

I also agree with replacing the middle mufflers with hotdogs. My CV8 has full 2 1/2" Manta Stainless, high flow cats, Manta hotdogs, Rear muffler, Pacies... Changing the centre mufflers gave it just that extra volume you are looking for. No drone still either. It's deep and loud (but not too loud) and sounds awesome when you nail it. Picked up kw's too. :goodjob:

If you get them flanged you can change out between mufflers and hot dogs in a matter of minutes.

Yea do that and make sure you take it for a drive before you get straights made up which be pretty easy on your system. How loud is your DF at the moment? is there any difference on a sedan with a DF. The DF 3'' i bought is still sitting on the workshop floor with the car beside it. Workshop dunno how to find out whats wrong with 02/pcm fault :vpo:

the dual 3" DF is not that loud on a bolt on engine, i swapped from xforce dual 2.5" to DF dual 3" and it is quieter. However the note is so much better, deeper, more refined, just tougher. Car also feels stronger right through the range. Cam is in now and it sounds wicked
DO THE CAM!!!!!!

I am not a fan of rushing into anything anymore... spesh not with cars.. slow and steady :)
My DF system is very loud compared to stock but still lacks the overall loudness i want from my system... i just want more of a head turn when i down shift and take off :)
Good luck with the problem mate... hofully can be resolved quickly!!

Nice work mate u will be happy with the DF carnt go wrong for the quality if the exhaust :)
lucky man i dont want stupid cats... :( LOL
It is a mint note i can gurantee that!
well the rear is pretty much a hotdog anywaz
so more likely replacing the middles get the most of the stock motor from that i think..

As others have said mate, I'd replace the centre mufflers with hotdogs. My Sureflo system has hotdogs in the middle and 6" (drum style) rear resi's. Sounds good when you're "up it" but dead quiet when cruising. Little bit of drone but I've gotten used to it.
It will be a bit louder than mine, but I reckon it would sound awesome!

Just hold off for a while mate, I guarantee you will want a cam or cam and heads eventually (everyone gets used to their power and wants more lol). You already have basically one of the best exhausts money can buy and you will definitely get the wow factor you want if your current setup is cammed. The change from bolt-ons to cam for me made the exhaust note a lot tougher and a bit louder. Just my opinion anyway... :)
Oh and if you do end up going to hot dogs, make sure you keep your old mufflers just encase you find it wasn't what you imagined.

got some overseas trips planned... and other stuff in the next few months
So for the moment just get the hod dogs and dont worry i will keep the DF mufflers at home :) no point in throwing such a good quaality stuff away for scrap :)

I have a little 220/220 XER cam (look it up in oztracks forum area), quite a good cam to start out with if you're not sure whether you could handle a big angry one. Cam only it made 270rwkw, with some dart heads it made 285rwkw. After having this cam for nearly 2 years now and loving it, I'm going a decent sized one and hopefully should get close to 300rwkw (a tad similar to the good old 232/234 but its custom specced ). I have now learned if you want more power and lower ET's you need a bigger stick, and with a quality tuner you can still have nice drivability to an extent. Some food for thought anyway mate :)
You're already a customer of Chev's, i'd bounce some idea's off him :)

Its a classy system no doubt bout it no raspiness a refined note when your up it performance wise car goes harder than any other system ive had and can feel the torque down low, has a slight burble of a v8 note inside the car unless the windows are down and is alittle drony inside cabin at idle, im looking at magnaflow 14'' ovals in where the cats would be to get rid of the drone
