hey people,
i looked everywhere before in the search engine about converting a vy ss auto to manual...
just on saturday my rebult auto blew, which had only done 30,000.
it probably would be cheaper to rebuild the auto again,
but i have a mate who has a t56 from a vy ss sellling cheap, he also has the bellhousing and crossmember,
what other stuff would i have to get to convert the car,
ie clutch and tailshaft etc?
and what else is invloved

It's been done by me and several others, plenty of threads on this.
Try these to get you going:

Master, slave, lines, clutch, loom, pedals, shifter. I've done 2 conversions, it isn't hard.

hey
ive done mine about 2 yrs ago..... it was on a ute.....
as far as i rember u need
Gbox ( manual)
pedal box is diff
gearshifter and all the interior bits
all the slave and master cylinders i think
resvouir for Cluthc fulid
i think u need to customize ur tailshaft
crossmember
u need to extend ur reverse signal cable
clutch and flywheel
and a diffrent diff due to auto and manuls have diffrent diff ratios...
and if u have someone with a TECh2 machine they can program ur dash cluster to be for a manual and remove the R N D 1 2 3 etcc
i prob forgot some things and some stuff i didnt know the name of but yeah thats all i remember

Just a thought. I'm thinking it may be better to rebuild the auto and sell the car and buy another one that has factory manual.
I'm just thinking down the track when you try to sell the car, that's all.

you will need
gearbox ,x member ,shifter ,shifter boot(tailshaft is the same)
clutch pedal, cruise control switch wiring(will be easer to cut your A4 brake pedal down then changing it)
slave , line,master,reservoir,clutch/flywheel
ether complete M6 loom or modify your A4 one
extend TC wiring upto dash,TC switch

No need to extend the TC wiring, it is long enough to be moved to the factory dash location next to the fog light switch without any chopping. :)

What info do you need regarding tuning? Find a tuner, get it tuned. Do you currently have a performance tune?

Well go back to the tuner and get the tune adjusted to suit a manual gearbox.

Good advice! I didn't even think of doing that when I converted mine. The pedals would have to be the hardest part of the job, and getting the damn auto dipstick off the head without a ratchet spanner.
