" Today’s monthly sales figures, released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), show Holden sold a total of 11,795 vehicles in March with its popular Commodore model maintaining its position as Australia’s best selling car. The numbers show the Holden Commodore enjoyed its highest March sales volume since 2007.
Strong sellers elsewhere in the Holden lineup include the Captiva SUV, which had its best sales month since being introduced in 2006, and the Holden Barina. "
Holden sold 1455 Captiva models in March, a 153 per cent increase on the same month last year, and 1213 Barinas – the small car’s best sales result since 2006.

Its about profit not so much sales...
Sales are great dont get me wrong but a business can achieve record sales and still record a loss... A 210 million dollar loss..

We're not talking about profits though we're talking about sales
Ford not doing too well if this is including commercials and vans. Won't be long until Hyundai takes 3rd spot.

True that ... Although with Holdens case it is good to maintain a huge market presence that it has had for 50+ years.

True. But if Ford is making a profit rather than a loss, who is actually in the better position? Car companies are not in it for bragging rights, they are in it to make money. I think they would prefer to have less sales and make money than the other way around.

Of course, but not at the sacrifice of profits. I don't want that history to be bled dry at the insistence of retaining top spot.

The Hyundai i30 had a huge month to be the No. 1 selling small car
It will be interesting to see if Hyundai can knock off Ford for 3rd spot this year
The Falcon's sales are appalling and the only Ford in the top 10, and with the Falcon wagon ceasing production soon sales will only get worse for Ford, could we end up seeing no Ford in the top 10 by years end ?
Ford might be able to survive on paltry sales each month but it's the Ford dealers that must be hurting and in risk of closing up shop

Maybe now that Ford have announced the ZF A6 is the only auto across the range with better fuel economy for the FGII XT they might chase more fleet sales then they're very lazy effort to date.

As long as the Falcon is still sitting within the Ford business plan I dont think they are too concerned - seeing as they have mentioned in the past required sales numbered arent as high as Commodore.
Interesting to see the Cruze drop down a tad. Probably buyers recognising the lowish power. Hyundai I30 still selling very well for something that has been around for a while now. It would be one of the oldest in its class having not had a mid life restyle yet.

The i30 has only been around since late 2007, so it's not really that old. About the same age as the current Corolla and still significantly newer than the Tiida or Civic.

.If Ford have a (deliberately) lower production rate and full stock turnover of around 30 days then I don't think they're as upset as you Hamico. If XT is 10% sales then the majority of sales are on higher margins so until the profit (or loss) figures come out we can compare Holdens $200 million loss (small profit if excluding one-offs) with Ford's figures. Sales figures mean nothing unless then they can translate to a positive return.
Plus if I was buying a V8 i'd be waiting a few months, if I was buying a LI LPG I'd be waiting even longer and same for a diesel Terry...and unfortunately they are delayed until 2011 which is a big concern :vpo:. Sure it hurts the immediate sales and if Ford say announced a loss (for example was 66% of Holdens loss) then they are both actually about even.

You would be mortified to know that alot of the new buses being sold in Australia these days are built in China as well.

There's still plenty of locally built buses, but the Chinese built ones are selling more & more all the time. It all comes down to $$.
