I got mine done by Sam @ Raceshift in Epping. $250 did a good job, gave me an option on how hard I wanted it to shift (I chose 'hard as ****' lol)
They're fun to have but it depends what you want it for...I found in racing I'd actually lose time because shifting into second the car would just slide about on street tyres and was actually dangerous to have a car beside me, I suspect it's the cause for the damage to my diff when I had grippier tyres because of the shifts too.
I decimated that auto after not long because of abuse and bought a new pre-built one, again with a shift kit in but it was just firm, much better to drive.

I put a B&M shift kit in and couldnt be happier. You can buy the kits on EBAY for around $100 and its DIY solution. You get a couple of choices in the same kit. I chose the the Stage 1 (Heavy Duty) after running the stage 2 for a couple months. It provides lovely smooth crisp gear changes. Stage 2 is really desgined for performance use.
For $100 plus a service kit (gasket & filter + oil) its a pretty good solution.

A mate of mine just had one put in his but it was part of a full rebuild after it shat itself.. I would think you would get more out of a tune, don't forget these auto's are electronic so as part of your tune some major changes are made to the shifts - go for a drive in a car that has had a tune, the auto is a lot more lively..

Get the tune done. A lot more adjustment than putting in a kit - And its not a 'be all, end all, no going back' proposition. If its too hard or holding gears too long, you can still alter them slightly. You can also have stock shifts in economy mode and hard shifts in power mode.
And put a big trans cooler on it if you haven't already.

pretty much the cons are the harder it is the less time your auto has at living because it boosts up the pressure to make it shift harder

i thaught it was the opposite? the more firm it is the less lag there is between gear changes so less chance of slipping...but it depends how hard your talking..i guess if it is very hard it would put a fair bit of pressure on the auto
i know ill get hammered but in my experience RVO in Dande have been good to me..they can give you what your after and he really does know his stuff
