G'day to all,
Sorry if these questions have been asked before.
I have an 06' SS. Completely stock. Manual.
Can someone explain to me why the intake pipe from the front of the engine to the air box is so big and not direct etc.. etc.....
Also, has anyone replaced it with an the intake pipe to fit the factory air box (e.g. VCM version)?
Would I need to a retune with this type of product? Also, I was thinking about a 2 1/2 inch cat back exhaust in the near future. Would I also need a tune with this product.

Hi Firie,
The Intake pipe will connect to the factory airbox setup, and still retain the MAF.
We also do a 2.5' exhaust if your interested, come down for a looksee (Open day next weekend! 24th April)
You wont require a tune, however you will get a much greater gain from your car after having a tune done.
:eyes: hope that helps.
cheers,

Sounds good Scott.
I presume open day all day?
I would love to hear another SS with just a cat back to give me ideas.
Also, are the intake pipes expensive?
Cheers.
The main reason for the (awful) OEM design is to reduce induction noise and ensure vibration isolation while maintaining pedestrian impact and packaging constraints ... at a cost of below $0.01.
Unfortunately, the OEM's designers have to answer to bean-counters & bureaucrats with little or no knowledge and passion for performance.

I did this some time ago and posted it on here. I replaced it with part of the Airhammer CAI to the stock airbox and a K&N panel. Cost me about $130 for the pipe and fittings from memory. Fits up pretty well, slight misalignment which is taken up in the silicon joiners. Also opened up the throat of the airbox. Works OK. Biggest problem is keeping heatsoak out of the MAF, it's just a dumb place for it. I have also done the mod to the IAT sensor in the MAF, removed the honeycomb and insulated it from heatsoak. AAT and IAT run within a couple of degrees when running (still creeps up at ide but not much I can do about that). All in all it works pretty well for what it cost me.
