Hey all,
Just looking to see if anyone here knows anything about id tags etc on older cars like a hx gts sedan im looking at please.
Just trying to find out if its genuine and it all seems legit.
The chassis was painted at some stage and has been sanded back to expose the chassis number, are these numbers supposed to look neat and straight? because these are slightly off, it just seems a little weird... and tag says its auto but has 4 speed manual.
is there any other way to check it is genuine... other numbers? certain parts to look for etc etc? here are the details, any help would be greatly appreciated.

With those numbers on tag number 1, it is a genuine monaro mate. If the second digit in the model code is w this singifies monaro in the earlier(hj-hz) range.
If it was genuine manual it would be m20 or m21 so id say its been changed at some time.
The chassis numbers are not always straight on these models either but you should be able to see easily if it has been tampered with.

how much are you paying?
Its definitely a buyers market at the moment and the hx was probably the "worst" of the gts/monaro variants and the price should reflect that.
crippled by emissions compliance, and pretty sure they missed out on RTS so you got the lousy handling of a HQ/HJ, and none of the grunt.
Do you have any pics or link to ad?

Good info. GU4 = 3.08:1 diff. This code was used on both banjos and salisburys.

I have to agree with most of the posts above. It definitely is a genuine HX GTS Monaro, I can assure you the numbers are correct.
I still currently own a 1976 4 door that is sitting dormant in my the shed waiting for some money to be spent on it and have verified all the plate details on my vehicle.
I would actually recommend the Oldholden dot com forum as they actually have a page called Holdenpedia which is a handy library of information relating to old Holdens.
If you go to the Oldholden website and have a look in the top right corner it should be shown there. From memory there are different sections for different vehicles as some codes were specifically for certain vehicles/models etc.
You should be able to identify what trim the vehicle should have also.
Hope this all helps.

Thank you all heaps for your input.
Can get the car pretty cheap because it needs a few things done to tidy it up... interior/new tyre's things like that.
found out to look for a hole where the auto speedo cable goes. will tell me if the body matches the tag
Thanks heaps.

very ture as stated above...the best.....but 1 of the rarest of the monaros is the "HZ GTS"....which was never labled as a monaro, RTS with fitted to this and the WB and then the commodore made its mark in history, with "smaller car image"...

I loved my hz gts, still have most of it in the shed lol.
I wish i owned it now (complete of course) instead of buying it when i was a no good punk teenager who ended up destroying most of it.

Yeah the HZ GTS was the last and the best of the H series breed. RTS really made it an outstanding handler by comparison with its predecessors. :)
