Hi people recently i started replacing the seal main seal and also the rear engine cover gasket on my vx ss. One of the things in the manual is that it specifies using a alignment tool to use on the rear main seal.

Has anyone ever used this method? or does anyone have another tool to recommend?

Reason why i ask this question because the new seal that i have seems to be abit different from the one that is in it? as in design of the seal.

I used a piece of pvc pipe the same size as the seal and a block of wood and gently tapped it in.

No issues. Search the american forums and there will be pics of this method.

did you take the rear engine cover off at all?

The bit that needs to be aligned I think is the rear cover. That's why I didn't bother taking it off, I just changed the rear seal :)
And, yes they're a revised seal. Very easy to fit (not so easy getting the old one out), just make sure the crank surface is dry!!
This thread should help you out ;) (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=115721&highlight=rear+seal)
