I'm in the process of sourcing some parts for my ls1 rebuild and it seems i can save alot by importing parts from the states for the build.
Has anyone had any experience with cheap rebuild kits and parts from the states?
The kit i am looking at can be had for around 1300aud delivered which includes gaskets, pistons, rings, bearings and all the rest which is extremely cheap considering a mate just got a gasket kit for his ls1 which cost almost 700 alone.

whats the brand of the kit? that seems way to cheap for my liking, i like to find thing cheap myself, but IMO thats a little of the cheap side and id be wary, unless of course its a great well known brand. but just remember, spend a bit more cash and do things right the first time.

I thought about doing a rebuild on an LS1 in the back shed over teh course of a year or so. even just a freshen up with semi OEM parts.
The $700odd gasket kit was the point that put me off. And i can get a lot of the machine work done on the side through my old work.

A brand new 6 liter with the conversion costs seems cheaper in the long run.

Been there and done it a few times and all I can say is stay from Ebay US unless you really know your stuff and can appraise all items on arrival to be what they should.

Shops like Texas Speed, Thunder Racing, Speed Inc (Is a forum sponsor) Scoggin Dickey all offer packages to rebuild engines at quite good prices. The service is generally quite good and the product top notch.
