Thought you guys may have been interested in this ;)
Maybe you heard the commotion regarding Pete's street driven Yellow Maloo - winner of "best presented" award at the LSX Shootout.
Pete had 3 or 4 passes either knocking on or bettering 150 MPH , done on both the left and right lane....
We were also a little skeptical ,until we stood at the end of the strip and watched Pete fly past....in hindsight , our skepticism was really unfounded, as the package we have under the bonnet of this thing iis almost the same as what we run in our VX sedan!

Our VX - 418 ci , 3.4 Whipple , 2 speed powerglide

Pete's VZ - 408ci , 3.4 Whipple , 6 speed manual

Obviously Pete's car runs a different exhaust and camshaft setup , but essentially , all the go-fat bits inside are the same.

At Heathcote , Pete really struggled to get any grip until about 1/3 down the track , he even tried a 4th gear launch on one run !
.......yes , even with his 315 wide rear tyres......maybe next year we'll get some drag radials.

Pete wants to challenge Mark Skaife's "world record" top speed for a ute , taking it to the salt flats in S.A. at some stage in the future - we reckon he'll better it in 5th gear.....

you could better skaifes record on a good length air strip in that thing...
that was a factory VZ Auto maloo though... this is not factory, so whilst it'd be easy to beat the record, it wouldn't make it into the record books...

but... a head/cam car with the right diff/box combo would easily knock 280kph... it'd be wobbly but very easy...

this thing would nudge 300kph fairly easy :)
good luck and give it a crack :)

WOW - what a beast. Credit to the APS crew for building such a reliable "whippled" charged vehicle. Was there much of a difference made from the 3.3L version to the current 3.4L Whipple jobbie in Peter's Maloo?

Impressive, but he ain't breaking any record. Skaifes Record was for the fasted 'Production Ute'. So no mods at all.

From memory the only mods were removal of the speed limiter and racing seatbelts. No performance enhancements whatsoever.

just nit picking, but wouldn't removing the speed limiter be a performance mod?

It would involve a tune, so who knows what else they would adjust while they were at it :1peek:

Don't think so, would just be a case of unticking a box in the computer. More a safety feature to stop people hitting ridiculous speeds in them.

Could even just unplug the speed sensor :)

My point though is, it is still a tune related mod, how do we know no other boxses were ticked, modified etc etc while fixing the speed limiter. It's something we will never know so lets just assume it was stock rather than pointless arguing :)
