Hi Guy's just curious how long has it taken to sell your car? I have been trying to sell my r8 clubbie with 45,000kms on it for a while without any luck what so ever. I have it on car sales which crosses over car point, now in the trading post and on here as well. I started at 32k now down to 29,500 with only 1 enquiry. I have had however 5 enquiries on car sales but they were the ole marine engineer scams. I must admit I didn't think it would take so long so now the IVF is on hold:vpo:
Is the market that rooted at the moment

Good luck!

I would have thought you'd be getting lots of interested parties with all the written off cars from the hail...

Everything in the 5-15k price bracket have inflated prices at the moment...

I'm on the lookout for a new car... but you car is about 10k over my limit haha

Yes you would have thought so. I posted a link to my ad on car sales I dont think there is anything wrong there while its not the cheapest I think for its condition and kms its priced right

Cheers

Sorry to hear that this is holding up IVF plans, no doubt a strain.

It will only make you feel worse but I listed in January on a Saturday morning my VZ Berlina LS1 wagon, 65K and leather for $23,999. It sold next day to first enquiry for $23K.

I have never had that sort of luck before!!

Oh and it was on carsales

V8's seem to be very difficult to sell at the moment. The rumours of petrol soon being $2/L probably isnt helping.

Looking on carsales recently several VY SS's are still there from when I was looking for mine around 4 months ago. One guy I talked to has an immaculate example and hasnt had any luck and his has been for sale + 6 months. And the guy I bought mine off had it for 6 months before selling to me. Its a buyers market for these type cars at the moment, I just hope I dont have to sell mine anytime soon!

Saying that it only takes one, and you have a great example there so hopefully it wont take much longer

Redbook says ..

* Private Price Guide $23,000 - $26,100

* Trade In Price Guide $17,900 - $21,000

* Average Km 110,000 - 180,000

I picked up a Vy R8 M6 series 2 18 months ago for $22k sure it had done more than 45k's and wasn't pristine but I think 29k is a bit much really. I would think 25-26 to be in the right price range. I saw an immaculate VZ ssz sell for 19k last month.

I've found when selling cars the amount of interest is determined by your price...drop it again and see what happens....you'll know when it is in the right region

can take longer to sell a low K car for more than redbook..

or a car that has had modifications, need to find a person that see the value in it.

Eg if they were to buy a stock car and do the same mods it would cost them loads more than what you are selling it for, they need to be able to see that value

however you could be waiting a longer time than if it was redbook priced

you'll pbly have to drop the price a bit more mate - i had a friend who had a VY clubbie (non-R8) with a few more K's, sold it about 6 months ago after it had been on the market for 6 months and it went 32-28 and eventually sold for $22k... so yep, might have to head a bit further south...

yep , redbook is the werd ,

like there is a cross 8 with a 6.0 in it for 46k on carsales , pfft goodluck to him .

If the price is right/realistic it'll sell .

it will sell below the $25k mark.

i have had one eye open at 5.7 r8's in the last little while and would take a look at it if it were manual.

good buy for anyone in the market and not too bad depreciation considering its an 03 model.

My insurance payout is 16.5k... I'd happily pay that!

By the looks of it, if i had another 5-7k i'd be right in the prime buyers market!

I didnt get much action on the Calais on the net and ended up detailing it up for the weekend and crusing with my numbr on the rear window. Got 11 or so calls in the fortnight and sold it, even had a choice of 2 buyers :)
From a person looking to buy a HSV, if the price is too high I generally dont look at it so its obviously an issue.
Best of luck with the sale mate :)

That could be an idea...detail the clubby mate and get a for sale sticker on windows with your details...go for a cruise in different areas.

Just dont drive too fast :)

I had a VS V6 wagon for sale recently. Had it on a few forums, and didnt get any interest (as always). Theni put it on carsales, and it sold in 3 days. The first person to call me and come take a look at it, bought it. I advertised it for $4k and i sold it for $3.5k, which is what i was happy to let it go for.

I had great experience with Carsales, had a buyer come and have a look only 3 days after I put the ad up, paid in full within the week with RWC.

The price you are asking for is high, try dropping it if you get no bites.

As a comparison, nearly 4 years ago, I bought my VX R8 Clubby, it's a 2000 build, but 1st reg in April 2001, so a 6 year old build but 5 years on the road at the time I bought it. Excellent condition, 68,000 k's on it at the time. I paid $27,000 from a dealer. 7 years old private sale (no warranty etc) $29K is I think a bit on the high side - it might be immaculate and 45,000 Km, but you've had no bites, If you want to sell it, I think you need to trim the price a bit. Given the condition, it should sell, it's a matter of price and waiting for the right buyer to come along. Good luck, hope you get the sale.

While it's an immaculate vehicle with low k's, probably chasing a bit too much.....have to be realistic and price it in the range of other cars listed, maybe 1-2k over others due to the low k's and condition...

I sold my wagon a little while back, took me about 8 weeks, but it was highly modified and had to wait for the right buyer.....

Other than that sometimes you have to stick to your guns and wait for the right buyer...personally if i was in the market for a veh like yours and the choice was yours for 2k more over something with higher k's i would go for yours, but that's me....

Good luck

4 weeks it took for mine, which was a shock after my previous car took 3 days (both on carsales). 350 views for the SS and one call! It was one of the cheapest and lowest k's too.

I think the issue is two fold:
1) Selling a year old (MY9.5) car - dealers are probably discounting a new MY10 to scary-low prices.
2) As previous poster said, a car with mods probably scares away most punters, even if the mods are mild. You have to wait for the right person. But once they appear often that person is equally keen to buy as you are to sell.

Sold my VE MY09 SS Sportwagon for $37K, 8 weeks ago. Listed on Carsales. Sold in one day to first person to inspect and drive. V8's still selling but the price has to be realistic. Number of enquiries correlates to price. I would suggest lowering a few thousand.

Hi tigrrss,
although the following doesn't apply to a car, the scenario remains the same.. bear with me on this..

I was looking to replace my motorbike (2001 Yamaha R1).
The one i had was written off due to a blonde who turned right without seeing me.

I looked and looked and looked some more, without finding the right bike.
I live in Adelaide, I even flew up to Brisbane for a day as I found 2 similar
R1's that had low kays and were one owner machines. No good. Both were NOT mint condition. Waste of time...

I searched and waited another 3 months and finally found a 2001 model with 4127 kms on it in Melbourne.
Had a friend who lives in Melbourne look at it for me, and he told me it was legit.

Moral of the story:

You will sell your car, but it will take time. I am very fussy, and I will wait for the right one to come along. I'm thinking that your in the same boat.

You have a MINTER R8, and someone like me who wants exactly that will happily pay what your asking. Just takes time I guess.
I paid $11500.00 for my bike when I could have paid around 8K for a higher Km
example..

Food for thought I suppose.

Carsales. Sold in 10 days to the first person to drive it. VYII Calais V8 122000km with mods.
It was the cheapest on carsales. Dealer offered me $12500 as a trade but it sold for $16300. Had it advertised for $16900 but I didn't move on the price too much as I was getting heaps of calls and had more lookers comming.

Get a few trade valuations then add a few thousand for a private sale.
Some times you just have to move on.

It took me 4 weeks to sell my VY S and it was the cheapest on there at the time.
Strange how it worked out that in those 4 weeks i got 2 enquiries and the day I got rid of it i got about 5 people asking to test drive/have a look/negotiate a price sort of thing.

I used redbook as a guide at first but in the end it didn't help at all, continually lowering the price and what not, the info it provided with a general sellin price wasn't anywhere near what people where shopping after at the time.

Just my experience with trade ins. Towards the end of last year was trying to sell my car ( not a holden though ) had been on carsales for 5 -6 weeks only interest coming in the first week when i was offered $32000. Didnt take it as i was asking $35500 and the add had only been up for a few days. By the six week mark was getting pretty keen to get something else so went to a dealer to start looking they had a car that i was interested in and even though i had no intention of trading my car in i let them do a valuation. The best they could give me was $24500 that was on either a brand new ssv wagon or a $50000 used ve clubsport. They seemed surprised that i wasnt interested and i could tell they just though i was an idiot telling stories when i said i had already been offered $32000. Call it luck or whatever the very next day a couple rang about the car came and looked at it and agreed to but it for $34500 exactly $10000 more than the dealer. This was not the first time i have sold privately for alot more than the trade price offered. I know it takes longer but i cant see myself ever trading a car in I would rather sell to someone i know for the trade price.
