Hi guys, just doing something a bit left field after I blew up the Turbo 265 hemi that I was running in my Chrysler Centura.

Anyway, got the motor and box lined up, just gotta gather a bit more money for it and so i can finish it all off. It's a VY Clubby engine and Auto. Overall it looks like it should be reallitivly straight foward with the engine cross member in nearly the right position to accept the commodore sump, maybe just a little notching.

It started today by ugrading the brakes to BA Falcon Rotors with AU Twin Piston caliper, just gotta make the adapter bracket and fit to the car, was suprisingly simple with the original front rotors removable.

Also halfway through fitting ED Falcon rotors and Calipers to the rear.

So basically just gotta sort a fuel system and wiring. I have found this on Ebay (see below), anyone have any contact detail or experience with it or maybe the person that does them is on here? And being in Mackay will more than likely get Jezza at HDT to work his magic with a tune. It will remain un-opened, at least till it's mod plated.

I can't post links yet but this is what it is: LS1-Standalone-engine-harness-engine-conversion

So, 5.7L and 1200kg should be pretty fun :D Also try post as more things happen.

Can't post a pic yet either, but it's really grandpa spec, just can't use the original hubcaps now :(

is the harness from Killalux.. I have just sent my harness to him.. so will see in a week or 2 what its like

30-05-2010, 06:22 PM
Yeah that's it. Mainly just looking if its all fairly universal so it gives you a bit of room to move with computer placement etc.

just send him a msg and he will be able to tell you.. i know that the vt to vz commo's there is enough length to shift the ecu into the cabin rather than having it in the engine bay. so you may be able to do the same. although the cenutra has a rather large engine bay compared to a commo

mad

I had a blue 265 when I was at high school and that was bad enough

adammacca
30-05-2010, 10:11 PM
265 with triple webers it ran 13.1 at 103mph. Only did 4 passes with the turbo motor, but it had a mid 12 in it.

I plan to leave the engine stock for now. It'll probably just be mafless with modded pacemaker extractors and a single 3inch exhaust to start with. Just be easier to start of with that. Should still see me in the 12's easy.

Well I just started a new job at the mines up here and went away for 4 days and come back to it in the hoist with the gearbox mounted... My old my didn't have much work on and was bored.

Anyway long story short the hoist it was on played up and left it hanging there so he couldn't drop the motor in... Lol

I'll try get some pics.

Well i'm nearing the home stretch and thought i'd give a bit of an update on things. Should have most of it smashed next weekend besides finishing off the wiring and will give it a good clean up and paint thats probably never been touched in its 35 years.

Unfortunately i still can't post pics cause i don't have 20 posts yet...

How do I get my post count up?
Your post count will rise with the use of the forums, all forums count towards your post count with the exception of
- The Tar Pit

- Multimedia Exchange

- Major Events Subforums

- Classifieds Subforums

- Sponsor Forums

- My Ride

Posts in the above forums WILL NOT go towards your post count.

Can I just post random stuff and reply to threads to get my post count up??

No. Doing so will result in a warning or suspension from the forum

hi mate posts in my ride dont count the beast is nearing completion love the old centura cheers

adammacca
20-10-2010, 07:53 PM
Well this is 95% done now. Got it running and driving today, thanks to Jezza@HDTCQ for the help getting it running.

I now just have to tidy up some of the wiring and loose ends and to get it complianced.

It feels strange having such a smooth running engine. Definately gonna need a cam and heads to make it a little more angry, but leave it stock for now to see how it goes :D

It's all going now. Getting the tune done tomorrow morning. Also found out the engine was from a 5/04 VYII Clubby.

Done around 60km with it today. Black tracks real nice stabbing it from 25kph roll.

Anyway, i've emailed some pics to ittwgn to post up for me :)

He saw it when I couldn't get it going myself. And was busy on the dyno today.

Put it on the scales at the tip. 2970lbs in the old money or 1350kg in the new :) That's race weight with me. So about 1260kg as it sits..

Rosey, got some LS2 heads lined up. And I'll cam it and got a stally and a craigs auto. But that would nearly see it hitting 10's... If it can hook up.

Did you get a before run mate?

adammacca
10-11-2010, 11:46 AM
Plenty happy with it now, just a shame its raining. Can't drive it around. It's scared of water...

It now has an extra 100hp at the wheels than the old tripple webered 265 had that ran 13.1. So comparing with Commodores and Centuras with similar power it could nudge into the 11's, which would make me happy as a pig in.

Now for the rain to F%#$ off for next weekend.

Thanks for the help again Jez.

adammacca
23-03-2011, 08:15 PM
Well this is about the only hard work it has done seen as it hasn't stopped raining... Burnout video.. Limiters are there for a reason aren't they? Lol

Mopar make a nice 392 Hemi, or this

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2010/12/mopar-reveals-new-426-hemi-crate-engine-other-goodies-at-pri-show.html :)

A Chev under the hood of a Chrysler? Sacrilege!

adammacca
28-03-2011, 12:42 PM
That would be nice, but it's 10K more than what I paid for the motor, trans loom etc. I looked at the new hemis and they are alot bigger than the LS1 and the basic 5.7 are still cast iron block, one reason I went with the LS1.

And with Jeremy's knowledge of LSX it made for an easy change over.

I wouldn't to it to a Charger, but you cop enough flack with a centura, having a chev just ads to the fun. Especially having more power than most small blocks that are bombed...

cali.ls1
10-04-2011, 09:53 PM

That's what I was thinking, but I don't think there is half a second in it. 0.2 max.

Here are the excuses... Lol

Still working out what these Goodyear radials like (a very small burnout it seems, ignore the burnout video that will get loaded up in the next week... Lol)

Was running over half a tank of fuel.

It was a hot humid day, there were storms starting to build around the place.

There was a fair head wind.

Anyway

Still pretty happy with it cause it's now a mid 12 car that can return 10L/100km on the hiway.

Maybe when it has to become a racecar... lol. Brakes are great, just hating the amount of brake dust coming off the fronts.

Finished up the 1150km trip today without a fault. Now looking to the Mopar Sunday trip at Willowbank with a track day at QR thrown in and decide which way to go in the mean time...

Last of the items to do the cam and head change showed up today. Also picked up the 4200rpm convertor from the HDT LS3 VP that made 300+rwkw so might drop back to around 3500.

All this will get changed over early August after I get back from the Brisbane quick.

adammacca
09-07-2011, 03:59 PM
All i've done is changed is the extension housing and got it reenforced.

Changed cam to a HDTCQ 'Street Torque' cam. 243 heads with valve grind. And a 4000rpm stally.

I was expecting to run around 11.8 at 114mph.

Here are the runs. One lane seemed to lack in traction, a full hit of the line resulted in mass wheel spin. Should be able to pick those ones.

11.542 at 118.04
11.401 at 118.50

Nice street manners and use it for long trips with 1/2 decent economy

Well at the end of July did the trip to Brisbane for Mopar Sunday. All up did 2500km and was returning about 10.5L/100km.

Did laps of Queensland Raceway which was fun, but the car doesn't like corners... lol.

Did 5 runs at Willowbank with a best of 11.54. The throttle cable had slipped on the trip down and I didn't pick up on it.

Anyway still had fun and had no dramas. Now I want to step it up... lol

time for a front end suspension upgrade ;) mine never liked corners much either untill i put in the new heavy duty springs and Koni's, still needs some beef sway bars front and back though.

whats next on the agenda for upgrades?

Page 96 of the lastest Street Machine you'll see my Centura at Mopar Sunday with daylight under the left front wheel. :D

As for upgrades, I can't really go too much faster without going to a cage and all that sorta stuff which I'm not sure I wanna do. I enjoy being able to get in and drive.

I do keep dreaming about more cubes and bigger cams, but I want to keep the alloy block. And if I did it I think i would wanna go all out and as big as I can.

Hi guys, new username as I previously had a free email. Also didn't have any updates on the car.

Since picked up a bit on gear such as the Edelbrock manifold and engine covers. Manifold cleared the stock bonnet, just, but the top edge of the TB didn't so switch to a bonnet with a scoop.

Also fitted up a nitrous kit.

And a while back fitted up a built 4L65E.

Hopefully a car will hold together for a couple of 10 second passes...
