I've seen VT V6 SS's before, but I'm assuming this is a conversion?
I remember seeing a '69 Pontiac Firebird with a 202 Holden engine in it .. this is almost as bad ..

I don't believe a V6 VN SS was ever offered. Doesn't sound right.
Most definitely was available in the VP model. Around 6-7 may have been built, one was raced by Peter Fitzgerald (of Porsche fame) in the series production races of the era.

Weird... It says 8 cylinder 5L in the Engine description. But in his description it says 3.8L
EDIT: I don't think ive ever seen a 5L engine before but the picture of his engine bay certainly only looks like a 3.8L 6 cylinder?

Weird. If it is a mockup, the level of detail is pretty high, with all the badges and stripes and whatnot. But definitely a V6.
Were the BT1 cars outfitted with SS gear and trim as early as the VN? I know in the VR days they were.

Gotta be a mock up. It has a badge on the rear, and it's a tad fuzzy but it looks like the V8 5.0 badge to me. Why would holden put a V8 badge on a 3.8L from factory? They wouldn't. Some bloke who wanted an SS and bought a S, and decided to chuck the kit and stickers on, would put the badge on.

could even be a ss, and they have taken the engine out and put a 6 in it, it definately doesnt look right tho

Im pretty sure i've read before that they did release a v6 vn ss. As there were a few hsv models at the time that came out as a 6 aswell but are super rare sv3600 springs to mind.

VN's were S packs, VP's had a 6 SS.

That's definitely the 5.0 V8 badge on the back, maybe they blew it up or are keeping the motor and that's why they fitted the V6.

If it was a genuine factoy SS V6 like he says it is, it wouldn't have had a 5.0L V8 badge on the back. :lmao::lmao::lmao:
Some people are just so full of it.
:bs:
Only the VPSS and VTSS S1 ever had V6 engines fitted from factory.
Cheers :)

The 9th letter of the VIN will be an H if built as a V6, and a U if a V8.

Looks like he's just pulled a full kit of a VN SS, 5L badge and all lol

Yes, the 6's were Supercharged. I remember when I bought my VT"SS" the dealer kept saying, you'll have to wait "X" for the V8 but we can deliver you a S/C 6 this week!
Because no-one wanted to buy them.................... (neither did I)

Planetdavo should be able to plug that into the system. Does the rego sticker say V6? Revs check should pin point when the engine was changed if it was done legit.
My uncle has a HSV VN V6, I thought it was an LE but a quick check says no 6's were built LE. It is two tone, basic body kit and meshy (criss cross) style alloys (not the Walkinshaw type that the SV6 and SV89 came with).

Got a msg back
Yea mate its a factory 5 litre, still registered as a 5L. Has had a 3.8L 5 speed conversion put in about 3 years ago.
No thankyou. Would have been a nice 2nd runabout car for the missus if it was genuine

The only VN V6 I can remember was the SV3800, but it had Walky style wheels on it.

Def not a Sv3800, argh this is hurting my brain trying to remember, I'd tell you where its parked right now but it's already been stolen about 500 times because of where he parks it. I've seen a couple in this guise to, so definately a genuine HSV model.
I think these are the rims:

There was a HSV plus 6 and Plus 8 in the SS (Series II)
From memory.

Why why WHY on earth would you swap the 5.0 for the V6 :fewl:
Especially in a genuine SS :weirdo:

Its a rare car. One of a kind, noone else stupid enough to junk an injected 5.0 for a v6
I can think of one other car which would give it a run for its money. A guy i know bought a vl commodore at auction. He was all happy about it until we pointed out it had a vk backend?? No lip and vk lights, the rear spoiler fooled him, his face went bright red, we pulled up the carpets to reveal welds, a cut n shut from two different models. Back in the day we called it a hybrid vk/vl, some called it the vl minotaur

The VTSS came out with a supercharged six...

IIRC there was a number of early model commodore SS's with V6s. I think HSV exported a SS VN V6 to New Zealand? The SS/6 combo wasnt sold in Australia though (Excluding the VP SS V6 and VT SS Super 6)...
Dont quote that though, im not exactly sure (Just remember something about NZ getting V6 SS)

As well as I can remember there where no VN V6 SS in New Zealand, but they did get the VN HSV LS V6 as in the pic in this thread, the had the same interior trim as a SS. They also had the VN GTS V6 wich also had the SS trim, I actully owned one of each of them they were a great cars for a V6. the GTS came out with manual as well as auto, the LS auto only, I used to race the LS in the HSV club sprints in NZ (after converting to manual) cheapest HSV around.

Used to see a lot of 1970s 4 cylinder BMW 520s that had their 2 litre replaced with the Holden 202. Not a bad conversion.

About 10 years ago i seen a VN SS in a dealer, apon closer inspection it was a V6 manual. At the time i did all the checking of VIn and model numbers etc and it was a genuine SS with a V6, the original owner had bought it from holden with the V6 optioned in. It was the weirdest thing but it was from the factory so they did make some one offs.
Looks like the one in this thread was converted though, probably a P driver wanting an SS and not being allowed to drive an 8

I've got a copy of Motor, November 1992 which has a comparison test including a manual VP SS V6 in it. So yes, it's real!
