Hi all,
Im thinking of buying a slightly modified VN SS (cam, slight head work). it also has koni adjustable suspension, VY SS brakes, darker than legal tint which i know ill have to fix and other things but im wondering how hard will it be for me to get it through a blue slip.
Will i need to have it engineered or anything like that or is it just a check to make sure it is safe and road legal
cheers

Technically it should basically be as was delivered from Holden or better than engineering wise. In this situation it will all depend on who you take it to. ;)

well its only got 81 000kms on it (history to prove kms are real and not a cluster change), and it looks near on perfect.
how much is a blue slip maybe ill need to try a few different places

they usually cost $50. they are mainly an identification check. Although the rules recently changed regarding brake upgrades, but I cant remember the exact details . I would just go and try and get one.
All they did with mine was make sure numbers lined up. then a brake test and just a quick look over car.

Basically during the blue slip if anything appears non standard you'll be asked to provide an engineering certificate or return to stock.Cost is a bit more than double a pink slip. Once a blue (or white if it fails) slip is issued it isn't a good idea to then try somewhere else as you may find yourself having the car inspected by the RTA inspectors directly.
A number of years back I blue slipped a XU1 mockup and had to remove the roll cage for the blue slip to be issued. One thing they let slide though was the rear brakes would lock up during heavy braking. Never did fix that up and when the car was stolen the scum sucking thief came over a rise in Eden and forgot about the roundabout at a great rate of knots, hit the brakes hard, locked the rears and ended up smashing through the roundabout, and getting busted by the cops who were at the servo at the roundabout.

I would ask around if you have a few mates local who are in the industry. They should be able to recomend a workshop whith a reasonable reputation in regards to being a bit accomodating. Some are straight down the line and could cost a lot of pain.
Technically they should go over the whole car. A lot of workshops will usually knock you back the first time if the car is a bit modified BUT a good workshop will just note a few minor things that are easy to fix.
It is a bit of a gamble - and as others have said I dont think you can really go somewhere else if you get a fail without triggering a concern with the RTA. Not sure if there is much truth in that as I have always used my old boss etc.
