hey all i have a cv8 monaro ls1. I just had a twin 2.5" exhaust fitted but i would like it a bit louder. Just seeing if anybody has changed their muffler to smaller ones or to something like a hotdog

remove the rear muffler and run straight through pipes

If you remove the rear and have straight pipes, depending on what's in the middle you will end up with droning noise when just crusing.

Small hotdog at rear instead of the resinator will give you better sound when you put boot into it, but want give the drone when just coasting along.

If you replace the middle to hotdogs, will sound nice and loud, but may get unwanted attention from boys in blue!

Once you start changing things, can be bit of trial and error to find sound you are happy with.

Stand on side of road and get someone else to drive your car past to hear what it sounds like. You be amazed at how different it sounds to driver, to someone standing in street.

Seriously you guys, do some research and reading first on the forum before asking a question which has been done to death.....
Bottom line is this you will make it louder, it will drone liker hell, you will de in denial then it will finally get to you,(if you don't get and EPA or defected first) then you will spend more money to make it quieter...

have a good read of all the exhaust threads on here...

Rant over...

For me, I went 2.5inch Xforce catback, with rear resinator removed. Sounded alright, no major drone (its an M6).

Second stage was a set of try-y extractors and high flow cats. This had a huge impact on sound level and added a bit of drone. As it's a manual, it's not really a problem, although I can understand why some wouldn't like it. I try and be careful to not attract too much attention, as I think it would easily breach the sound limits.

I think mine would be far more sedate sounding with a new rear resi or hotdog, which would also help reduce the drone somewhat also.

In conclusion, if I was to do it from scratch again, I would get the extractors and cat's done first, then mate up a rear section to match as a second priority.

i noticed lately that my exhaust was hanging all wrong at the rear bar, took to an exhaust shop and found my mufflers had broken the welds were the pipe goes into muffler, quick fix 2 hotdogs fitted.
i have 1 3/4 4into 1 pacies hi flow cats and had an early redback catback, now has 2 centre mufflers swapped for the hotdogs and it does sound DEEPER, but at around 3500 rpm it gets too loud for me atm. use to be quiet untill you got up it and @ 3500 it got loud but not noisy loud.
the youngens love it but i'm thinking of the boys in blue and maybe a touch over perfect. but is better sounding in every day driving in traffic.
hope this helps

The most noticeable sound gain to mine was when i swaped out the standard cats for 100cpi ones bought off sureflow (forum sponsor). couldn't beleive the difference. I was on the same boat done all the exhaust except the cats and it was pretty quiet until i did the cats, but beware dont knock standard ones out apart from being highly illegal they sound like shite
