People,

I'm wanting to wack the tie down into the back of the ute for the dirt bike, i'm looking to put them just in front of the wheel well towards the front of the. If i dril in there will i be able to get access from under the wheel well to put the nut on?? just don't wanna be drilling holes all over the joint!!

Or if anyone has any other suggestions.....

Cheers

Pull the tubliner out (if you have one) and look for the removable panels Pull one out and have a feel in side the cavity look for a blank spot and drill a hole there. drill a hole in a bit of 100x100x5mm steel plate and bolt through both of them then bolt a tie down point in. Should hold well enough. dpends how tight you want to go. If you are worried use a bigger bit of steel and bolt it in a few places and it will spread the pulling pressure over a greater distance.

Holden offer tie down rails as an option... see if you can find out where they mount them on the floor with an instalation manual (perhaps PD can help).

Do you put the bike in on a angle? with my old ute i put it on an angle and it was fine to tie down using the little tabs on the tray. it was a vy maloo. the bike doesnt need much to tie it down.

Another option I just thought of. is pull out the allen bolts that hold the top rails down and see if you can buy an eyebolt with the same thread and bolt that in there. If you cant find one Im sure anyone handy with a welder could knock you up some.

I have an alloy tool box up in against the cab so which leaves me less space, also i have two bikes in the back on most occasions. I used the factory mounts just under the cab which worked fine but were a hassle and just fitted two sets of strap hooks.

Will investigate the bolts on the rails.....

from spare tyres to gearboxes and engines, I refuse to pull these holders out of the floor of the ute....just too damn handy :)
