View Full Version : Does holden/hsv need to have a three seater option on their utes?

Do you think there should be a 3 seater option on the Ute range ?
They should still keep the bucket seat for the driver but incorporate a two seater for the passengers , just like the Japs do it .
I know it may be a bit tight , but if the imports can do it , why isn`t there this option? I think it would be very handy and may even
produce a few more sales .
Would you take this option , if it was available ??????

A six on the tree and bench seat would be great:)

UNLESS they finaly do a paddle shift on the steering wheel :p, I'd say its highly unlikely.
only way they could do it is put the shifter back on the tree, and IMO, THATS UGLY, unless you dont give a shit :)
They could have paddle shift and button select for PRND .

Sounds like a good idea, but it might cost a few $$$$$$$.
I was in a Hilux the other day with a manual floorshift and although it was bit tight , you could fit three blokes in the front .
You just have to watch out on those first to second gearshifts :driving::nutkick:
.....It would be OK if it was a female next to you :up2sum::)

I drove a VZ SV6 that had a paddle shift for the auto as well as the normal shifter.

I actually asked this question to a Holden salesman in 2003, when i was looking to buy a VY SS. We were expecting our first child, and the answer was a simple no. Looked at the crewman, too long, too big and rear seats didnt look comfortable. I actually think they do nead a 3 seater option, wont help me know as i have 2 kids. By the way, the number of times i have seen a passenger in the back of the tray :hide: .

3 is a crowd munster--my personal view is that wether its a ute with 2 or 3 seats they charge too much for holden-hsv utes--
Just trying to think when was the last time i had 2 chicks next to me in the hi-lux
maybe that goes on the to do list before i die ........:smilesandbanana:

I wreckon it would be a great idea, you sacrifice the sports feel i spose but are awarded with practicality......don't mind the look of the column shift. Takes me back to when the old man had his Kingswood wagon with the front bench seat, good times....

My old Silverado and my current F150 have bucket seats on the side with a single middle bench with the fold down armrest with cupholders. So there is no loss in comfort for the two main front seats. The middle seat is in a fixed position, and the side seats slide, recline and do all the regular stuff. The new Ford Super Duty even has a headrest in the front middle seat, with a lap-sash seatbelt.

Yeah but it wouldn't work in Texas.
3 cowboy hats are wider than a Holden ute.

The simple reason they don't is airbags. Can't have 3 people in the front with only 2 airbags and can't have 3 airbags either.

I honestly think the bench seat is in the past, too hard to configure it into the current interior with airbags and the general layout.
As mentioned, it might be ok on the base model but on the sport models it would kind of ruin their "big coupe'" appeal.

My VS ute has bucket drivers seat and two seater with fold down arm rest - works a treat when me and my 2 boys go out
Sounds like bullshit that it cant be done

I think we have evolved a bit past that, why buy a Ute if you want more than 2 people in it?
Buy a sedan.......

Come and and live in Albury, every man and his dog has one; mostly for work. They do come in very handy. My mate (forumn member) has a vy ss ute, which i have used on many occasions to transport large objects(air conditioner and rims to name a few). We go to the drags, everything is loaded up in his ute. Skid pan day in 2 weeks, same thing. They are very handy, and i would have purchased one if i could have 2 passengers.

Wont happen.
Not enough demand + development costs = no profit. Particularly these days, as development money is still tight.
How many of these bench seat jap utes in the bush are not 4WD's?
How many would sell without a diesel option?
Past history of the VG-VS utes had very little takeup of the 3 seater version, and since then, Holden (paticularly) and Ford have been actively pursuing the more profitable sports ute market anyway, with great success.

Hey buddy you are obviously a city slicker - country blokes own utes!!!
We have evolved, sedans dont always work - thats why utes were created for us - you city slickers only need sedans as you dont have a use for utes except for posing in:jester:

Correct.... all tradies are posers. and surf boards fit into sedans quite easily.

I had to fit 2 girls in the ute last fri night one sat in the seat with legs apart and the other knelt on the floor with her bum backed in under the dash a bit and rested her head on the others lap. Worked ok for me anyway:)

Did someone say it was only because they had already developed it for the taxi market?

Can you still get an FG ute 3 seater? Didn't actually know that.

They haven't offered a factory taxi pack since the BA days
However I was under the impression that the base VE ute was available with the bench?? And surely if the Caprice gets the gong as a US cop car they would want a column shift for that??

I just had a look at the Ford site and it looks like you can get a Fixed centre seat with a column shift auto on the Ute. Link (http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/ContentServer?cid=1178852828533&pagename=Page&c=DFYPage&site=FOA)

Cool. :) I have a soft spot for utes. :goodjob:
My old man (god bless his soul) had a V8 253 HQ Belmont ute with a column shift 3 speed manual and bench seat.
I learnt to drive in it, a lot of fun. :)
