View Full Version : VE SS, time for some mods
Hey ladies and gents, just recently bought myself an 06 VE SS (ex police car) and it's time to start modding. Now I have a couple quick questions regarding different packages and what you guys would recommend, I'm definitely going for a OTRCAI and tune but my dilemma starts with the exhausts. I have heard that with an CAI and tune you should roughly gain 40rwkw add an exhaust on and you get an extra 10 to 20rwkw (correct me if I'm wrong). Exhausts start at around 1.8k and go up, So I decided to give the catback section of the exhaust a miss and just go for extractors and cats. I am basically looking for power and bang for buck, will I loose much power by using the standard catback? Is that 10 extra rwkw really a huge difference?

I have a dyno sheet around here that was done on a VE SS ute. They did some tests with changning from a stock system to a cat back, and there wasnt much of an improvment. Then they changed only the cats, and it was abit better. Then did headers and that was where the biggest restriction was. Then they changed the whole system and that was obviously the best.
This was done on a bog stock 6Ltr VE SS. Ill see if i can dig it up and post a pic of it.
Cool, so to keep it within budget better off just going extractors rather then catback. Weird why a few places sell their packages as level1- tune cai, level2-catback tune and cai level3-full exhaust tune and cai. Wouldn't it be better to market level2 as extractors tune and cai if that's what gives you most power?
