Hey guys
Was wondering if anyone knew how hard it is to connect genuine holden parking sensors into an ss ute. Is there an allocation for them there already or does a kit have to be wired in? The reason i ask is because my ute was unfortunatly hit whilst parked and it looks as tho the rear bumper will have to be replaced. So while its off i was gonna pay the extra as its being put through insurance an get them installed in the bumper by the panel beaters. Just curious to know how much extra work was in it, like if i have to install a speaker, etc.
Thanks
Steve

Hey Steve,
You can buy a genuine kit that has the harness which is plug and play but fitted, it is quite expensive.
Cheaper option would be to by an aftermarket kit (about $80 from memory) from a car audio shop and just get your panel beater to fit and paint the sensors for you. Knowing your skills you would be able to wire the rest yourself as it's just a little control box and a speaker, easy peasy.
How bad is your bumper?
I damaged mine a little while ago with a trailer and need to replace it also, got a price of about $380 for the bumper plus painting so depending on your excess and seeing as your young, might be better just to fix it and not make a claim??

+1
Reversing cameras are better and cheaper than the factory reverse sensors, though a bit more time consuming to fit.

Thanks Tim. Its got a couple of gouges near the right tailight that are pretty bad. Taillight is also stuffed and has pushed it out of alignment too. It happened infront of a mates house and thankfully the person responsible ended up getting in contact with me and they have put it through their insurance, so its only going to cost me time. It gets assessed on thurs so i'll know what they plan to do from there.
Plan was to see if the panelbeater would be willing to order the genuine kit with their pricing and i'd pay the extra in cash, that way its plug and play and im sure even a panel beater can plug something into a harness. May do some hunting and try to find out what holden slugs for the kit.
A camera would be nice but i dont have a screen for it to be displayed on

cool steve, sounds like a plan mate,
when they replace your tail light ask if l can have it, need one, damaged is ok, for research purposes.
the oem kit plugs in behind the glovebox and the unit sits next to the battery, l moved the speaker to the centre console so the sound was centered and not coming from the back corner of the cabin
the after market ones only have 3 wires to connect apart from the sensors so theyre pretty easy, might save you a couple of hundred?

Yea no worries mate. The outside lense is broken but i'll definatly ask to hang onto it anyway.
I'll have a look at the after market sensors too coz it seems the oem ones may be a little too sensitive. Something adjustable would be good, Do you know if Grant carry's kits?

Mine on my SSV sedan were way too sensitive - far more sensitive than those I had on my VZ SS.

Not sure if he currently has them in stock but yes, as a norm he usually does. I have the OEM ones in mine if you want to check the sensitivity, l'll be home wednesday. I find them to be good, l use them in combination with my camera as you know.

I can't recommend the park sensors, not for $610 from Holden regardless of it including fitting.
Pre-wired looms are always well appreciated however I think the reversing camera is a far superior offering for those with the SSV head unit. I've seen rear-vision mirrors with small lcd screens that may be of assistance for those who don't.
I really think the kit could have atleast muted the factory stereo when reversing. The kit is poor in it's response, I don't know about the idle speed of anyone elses ute but it moves quickly and that really needs to be considered when gauging the distance remaining as there is a lag, and the speaker is poorly placed. The visual aid of the Calais is calculated by the BCM over the CAN bus which is quite disappointing to miss out on on the SSV - after all, surely $610 should buy you something than what I have listed above.
I reversed into a pole in my VU SS and I was keen to avoid that here, but I cannot recommend the genuine sensors to anyone as they require more effort to learn than having someone get out of the car - there is a sticker adjacent to the tyre pressure label that should state "paid money, thank you - but they are for decoration only"
