Seems they are re-organising the capacity categories and 250cc will be in a new category, with a massive price increase. 1100cc appear to get screwed as well!

As one reply said, "there goes the 250cc market"...

Your CTP is going up.
NSW CTP Greenslips change from 1 July and no one bothered to tell us because they thought we wouldn’t notice.
The Motorcycle Council of NSW and Bikers Australia are unaware of the extent of the changes based on my calls to them today.
The new categories are as follows;
100 to 226
226 to 726
726 to 1125
1125 to 1325
1325 and over

Bike Capacity / Pre 1 July / New Price 1 July / Percent increase
250 / $252 / $465 / 84%
600 / $663 / $465 / -30%
750 / $663 / $682 / 3%
1000 / $663 / $682 / 3%
1150 / $663 / $880 / 32%
1350 / $663 / $780 / 18%

Prices are an average of the top 3 prices gleaned from the MAA Greenslip calculator.
Information based on;
2004 model bike
Metro area rego.
Driver 48 Y/O
No Demerit points
No other insurance
No roadside assist.
No at fault

Basically email/write/drop into your local member and the transport minister and advise the following;
You vote and will vote for the person that supports you.
Ask why is this happening
Ask what are they doing about it.
Ask why the split of capacities is so obviously designed to gouge the maximum amount out of Motorcyclists

If NSW / ACT have a similar third party scheme (T.A.C.) as Victoria, well, the reason it is increasing is because more and more bikes are falling over.

Typically, the category covered by the 226 - 726cc engine size, are well represented in the statistics.

cheers

Doesn't make a damn bit of difference because NSW/ACT do not have a system like Vic.
NSW (and ACT) CTP only covers personal injury to 3rd parties. (some policies cover the driver/rider as well but that is not a compulsory part of ctp) Not too many motorbike collisions that are the fault of the rider actually injure anyone but the rider him/herself

I have had road bikes for the last 8 years and my CTP greenslip prices have been all over the place.

I had a CBR954RR between 03 and 05 and my CTP was $394 for two years and $403 the last year with Allianz. I then got an 05 ZX-10R between 05 and 08. The first year was like low $400's. Then there was the big jump in CTP. My next year was $630 something with QBE. The following year my mate's parent has a car dealership. I got a CTP through NRMA via them and got it back down to low $400's from $600 something.

I bought an 08 ZX-10R in 09 and the last two years I couldn't get it below $600 dollars.

The MCIS levy has gone up somewhat in the last two or three years. I think at the start it was $80 something dollars. Now the MCIS levy is about $270.
The MCIS levy now covers drivers, passengers and pedestrians for life now.

This is v.bad news for those that ride on the roads!

Come to the race track instead.......!!! :) Stunt riding days, track days, race meets it's alot better than road riding and usually safer!

You'll note that I stated 'IF NSW & ACT have a similar system.....................'

at least in NSW you dont get slugged an extra lump of cash each year like in Vic
...for a motorcycle safety levy
:vpo:

Jesus that's pretty harsh

One of the few saving graces with living in Wait Awhile is that bike rego is only $220-ish per year.

That's for an '06 ZX6R.

What's this safety levy bizzo then??

I've written to my local state member about this (Nathan Rees hahah) - I'm doubtful i'll get a response back about it but it's a load of bull$hit if you ask me. The state government claims a greenslip is manditory, so they should be setting the price of them, not the insurance companies! Example, with my 1000cc bike one insurance company quoted me ~$700 and Shannons came back with just a bees knob over $400 for this years greenslip.

With these "reforms", i'd hate to be a 250 owner :(

You'll note that I stated 'IF NSW & ACT have a similar system.....................'
hence why I cleared it up.

IF you had stated it as fact I would have put my subtle hat on and really pointed out you were wrong. (plus less than a minute searching would have cleared it up)

And ACT is different to NSW - we still only have one insurer for all rego (NRMA). Paperwork has been done to change to 'choice of insurer' but is waiting for sign off by our chief minister. Interestingly, when they went to industry for pricing, the variation from a number of insurers (for the compulsory 3rd party insurance) was only $18.

btw - my 1100 bike cost $451 total, my WH Stato $906!

Squids on scooters that have ballooned in recent years are half to blame, the other half of the blame goes to the corrupt state govt.

State revenue keeps increasing like buggery and they are always broke!

These CTP prices will probably increase again next year.

Having comprehensive insurance with Shannons helps me. They use GIO. My wife's '09 XL1200C Harley was quoted $676.91 with NRMA for CTP renewal. Shannons got it for $420.33. Still over the top IMO, but much better than NRMA. They seem to do cheapish CTP when you buy the vehicle new, but rely on you not shopping around when it comes to renewal. Same happened when I bought my SSZ ute in late '05. CTP renewal doubled with NRMA-(didn't take them up on their kind offer). Used Greenslip King then.
Cheers, Mike

Hi mate, sorry if i have got this wrong, but are you saying that Shannons go green slips?
am asking because my KTM rc8 is due in a few weeks and the best green slip is $700 :bawl: but the qoute from Shannons for fully comprehensive insurance was good :)

Yep, Shannons do green slips, if you have the vehicle comprehensively insured with them. Give them a call and listen to Glenn Ridge sprout on for a while.
Cheers, Mike
