I need a bit of advise

I need to open the boot of my VT, but stupidly pulled out motor and wiring loom, and sheeted out rear of car with aluminium while boot was closed

Does anyone have any ideas of how to open it easily, or do I have to do something radical ?

my old VX SS used to have an emergency boot release cable behind the rear middle fold down seat. Not sure if that was there in the VT's but worth to have a look.

Do the VTs have the ring you can pull to open the boot, accessed through the hole in the back seats? If not, gas axe it.......

Yep .. .screwed as far as I can recall.

I've got my car half pulled apart at the moment, and had stuff in the boot that I needed. Crawled in through the dickie door in the back seat with a torch, but there was no cable release in the VT (that I could find).

In my case I could connect up the power and use the remote button to release it ... but if you haven't got a motor in there ...

Can't recall if you can see the lock from inside the boot once you've used the backseat entrance. You might be able to pry at it with a screwdriver. I think I could see it and had a feeble attempt before giving up on that approach as I was annoyed

i think the biggest problem he has is he has sheeted out where the back seat goes. might have to pull a sheet of have a look.

good luck mate

If you can fit between the seats, you should be able to remove the boot lid liner and unbolt the latch. That should allow the boot to open normally, but I'm only working from mental images of last time I looked at the setup.

I think he's just removed the light panel and sheeted the back up.
Should be able to gain access through rear seats. Remove if necessary.

Good luck

If its possible at all...could the parcel shelf be removed and through the opening of the bbot lock be poked with a stick and unlocked??

Yep, Ive sheeted the rear seat and parcel shelf area

Might have to remove it all and try to get my fat ass into the boot space and see what I can do

Would it be cheaper/easier/quicker to just cut through the current bootlid with an angle grinder, then pick up a second hand bootlid once you've rectified the issue?

$60 gets you a secondhand one, and if it saves you 3+ hours of work. Ka-Ching!!!$!

My boot for some reason wont open at the moment. but there is a pull ring behind the ski hole that opens it.

VT boots had a key/lock to open as well as remote ... so they did not need the emergency pull ring.

The VX onwards commodore only had remote release, so had to by law provided a cable release

My Keyhole doesn't accept the key.

No key hole in this boot, and no pull cable either

Seedy - I was just talking to a mate and thought about just cutting the boot off

I think you could drill a hole through where the number plate is normally, there should still be a cable of some sort which will open the boot, not 100% sure but thats what I'm doing to have a boot release on the outside of the boot

Ended up removing half of my alloy sheeting and climbing into the boot cavity to remove boot latch
Wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be :smilesandbanana:

Maybe you can fit the VX pull ring to save a lot of grief next time you can't open it. Presumably you could get what you need from a wrecker without too much problem.

Think there might be a lesson many could learn from this.
Never assume there wont be consequences from your actions. A backup VX ringpull would be well worth your while, as Commodore boot latches failing isn't exactly uncommon.

Great idea - I will chase a VX pull cable up and fit it as sure as shit, this will happen again to me

Cheers everyone:goodjob:

If your using it for drag racing, ANDRA require it to be able to be opened from the ouside of the car

Ok if that is the case, then I'm probably better off trying to get a bootlid with a keyhole in it to solve all the hassles
