Hi guys. I've been a visitor to this forum ever since the SS Lumina was introduced here in South Africa. I finally have a reason join this awesome forum as I have just purchased a VY ute. I have lots of questions to ask so I apologize if they are silly or have been asked before.

I bought my Ute as a non runner, the previous owner smacked her into a light pole. I got her started the other night and the motor sounds really rickety. Theres oil sweat and small leaks every where so I have decided to rebuild. I have been around to a few local scrap yards and have found a crashed VZ ute with the 6.0 gen4 motor still in excellent condition. I can have the motor, engine harness and ecu at a decent price. My question is....will the dash harness of my VY be compatible with the gen4 engine harness and ecu? Do I also need the accelerator pedal from the VZ? Would it be a better option to adapt the VY ecu and harness to run the motor?

Hey dude,

Firstly t/b you can put your cable one of you ls1 onto the gen 4 and that way you won't need to change pedals etc,

You will need to drill and tap knock sensors in the side of the block, and extend wiring,

You will probably also need to run a lingenfelter converter box to,

Good luck

Tom

Thanks buddy. Do I use the VZ harness and ecu or retain the VY harness and ecu?? If I use the VY setup then am I correct in doing the following:

1. Adapt VY knock sensors to fit on the sides of the LS2 block.
2. Lengthen knock sensor wires to work in new location.
3. Lengthen cam sensor wiring to work with LS2 cam sensor on the timing cover.
4. Reuse LS1 inlet to retain cable type throttle body.
5. Pray that the reluctor wheel is 24 tooth if not strip reluctor wheel from the LS1 and fit to new motor, or get said convertor box.

If there's anything else I have missed please guys let me know.
