Just wanted to check that the standard HQ pattern on these wheels, suits the commodore stud pattern? Also on the 15x8 what backspace do you normally run on the VT-VZ models?

HQ/Chev Pattern is different to Commodore.

the stud pattern is different - 5x120mm (commodore) and 5x4.75" (old banger)... it's not much, but it's different enough...
i've put a set of pro-stars on mine for the drags once, but i don't know if i'd do it a lot...
there are heaps of guys here using Weld wheels at the track. and even some on the street. but i'm not sure what they're doing for stud pattern... special order, or just running the risk?????

You'll want the maximum backspace of 5.5", I don't think they make them for commodores just HQ/Chev stud pattern. I'm not keen on the idea either but what do you do? ANDRA insists on ruling out all the cheaper options.

Commodores have a 120mm PCD and the 4.75" are a 120.63mm PCD. Its is very very close but there is always the risk you could break a wheel stud

Yeah I realise what you guys are saying with the difference between metric & imperial. So many guys are using them though. Has anyone on here had any issues with breaking the studs with the weld wheels?

Looks like nobody has had any issues???

I use them on the front on my ute as I have some 15x3.5's. I have been using them over the last year or so with no problems. They fit fine and I use the shanked weld wheel nuts with no problems.
Rosey is right with the backspace. You need 5.5" backspace with an 8" rim.

Scott,
I ran Weld Draglites at the drag on standard studs plenty of times and never had an issue with breaking studs etc. If you're running at an ANDRA track though they usually require the stud to be sticking out past the rim which the standard stud does not do and you would need to upgrade to ARP studs.
How much power are you running? I'm using 15x7" Weld Draglites (5.5" backspace) with 235/60/15 MT Drag Radials and ran 10.7@132mph last time out. I'm asking as the 15x8" Draglites with a 5.5" backspace are a lot harder to fit that the 15x7's.

Scott, Are you planning on changing your brakes? You wont get the 15's on as the HSV brakes are too big. I have 310mm on the back of my car and 16's just fit using a 3mm spacer. Yours being an R8 the brakes are bigger than mine too.
I have just had a couple of 15x8 intercepter rims made up to run a 28x9 slick on we are playin around with backspace at the moment i will let you guys know what we come up with ....

Thanks guys. I will be changing the brakes for the drags.
I think I will just go with the 15 x 7's and the 235 radials, they should handle my power easily.

how crazy is your car???
i've got a VY 2 Maloo with non-R8 brakes... so the mid level ones... and i run a 16" steel wheel...
they fit no worries, a 255/50R16 Drag Radial tyre fits, runs 1.5 second sixty footers and will go quicker with a little bit of work no problem...
i'm only running a cam-only set-up but the 6000 stall hits the tyres pretty hard...
the steel rim i believe (someone confirm) is off either a VZ Cross6 or Cross8 or perhaps an adventurer spare rim???
but it is a holden wheel with holden markings on it, painted black, and fits no problem...
if you need full slicks though, then yeah, a brake change is required to run 15's... but if drag radials might do... look into it!

Its not crazy! I would be happy with a mid 11.
I will have to look into these as it would save me changing the brakes, as my car isn't an R8.
Any info on the steel wheels guys would also be great.

If your car is a manual and you aspire to netting better 60' times than around 1.7-1.8 seconds than I recommend full slicks, that's what I'm going to. If your car is an auto, like Brett SS said 235/60R15 ET Streets will give you great 60' times and keep your MPH up there with less rolling resistance.

Just use normal weld draglites with the 4.75/4.5 combo and maybe later change the rear studs to ARP. Everything works fine, my old car did hundreds of runs like that.
Slicks will be more consistent but 255/60 x 15 MT ET Radials or 275/50 x 15 MT ET radials are the pick with a bit of work to make them fit. But you can start with 235/60 x 15s if you like and take it from there. The DR are great if you can get them to dead hook.

The wheels on Bretts Procharged wagon are a good thing. Its just a matter of getting fronts that match if you want it looking neat. Otherwise get the common 15 x 3.5/1.75 for the front with 4.75/4.5 and the 15 x 8 with 5.5 or (15 x 7.5 with 5.5 if you can find some) for the rear. I would suggest the 275/50 x 15 MT DR after seeing what is being done in the USA in GTOs with them.

I have just fitted 15x10 draglites with 275/50 MT DR to my Monaro.
Took a skim of banjo brake line bolt head and bent the brake line down.
Iam going to take it for a drive now and do some mild launches
I have pedders Xa s fitted and set to 10.I Will soften up gradually making sure it isnt scraping.Best setting was 6 when i had 15x8 with 235 MT DR
It looks like it might scrape on the inner plastic cover were the plastic philips

I was looking at 15 x 10s for my HSV GTO Coupe but thought they would not fit. What backspace did you opt for.

Went for 7 1/2" bs.Found them on ebay last week.
I had the gaurds lipped a while ago
Drove out driveway and could hear slight scrapping on inner gaurd.
Jacked up and removed wheel, rectified problem with mallet.
Done a few launches with no scrubbing, but scrubbed half way thru a corner while goin thru some S bends near home.
Pumped them up to 34 psi and went thru the S bends again,no scubbing.
I could drive to the track all ok then let them down at drag strip
I have some 15x4 coming this week,should go a little quicker,best run
1.542 60ft.
