Fact was presented to me today.
Fantastic achievement.
Its a pity that they didnt make it through. They played great, and with plenty of heart.

Some other lesser known facts from the 2010 FIFA World Cup:
- Spain not only won their first World Cup, but became the first European side to win the World Cup outside of Europe.
- Spain won their last 4 games 1 - 0 to win the cup.
- Thomas Muller from Germany won the Golden Boot (was equal goal scorer but had three assists) and the best young player. He was also the only player with a 100% shot / goal success rate (he had 5 shots on goal and scored with all of them).
- 2010 was the first World Cup Final not to feature one of the 'Big 4', that 4 being Germany, Brazil, Italy and Argentina
- Spain are the lowest scoring country to win the World Cup
- The Spanish win gave ‘Paul the Octopus’ his 8th correct prediction in a row (every match of this World Cup). He only got one match wrong in the 2008 European Championships (the final where Spain beat Germany – he predicted Germany, maybe under public pressure!)
- English referee Howard Webb set the new World Cup final record with 14 yellow cards and one red card – in the end it was easier to list the players who didn’t get a card!

Apparently there was also some parrot from the Philippines that correctly announced Spain as the winner too, waffled some line in Spanish. These animal predictors are starting to become like jesus figures in toast

I heard on the radio this arvo that there was a Croc in NT that predicted it aswell. Bloody freaks, if you ask me (the people that listen to them, not the animals themselves lol)

On the contrary, they did just as well this world cup as the last. One win, one draw and one loss. In fact, in light of the shocking referee decisions Australia copped, they actually did better this world cup than the last IMO.
Didn't help that the coach killed them in the first game against Germany which ended up putting us out of the 2nd round due to goal difference.

I also heard Australia was the last team to beat the Netherlands before the World Cup final, back in 2008.

Was the world cup on? I saw some horribly bad acting on SBS but just thought it was a non titty movie as I switched over to watch some proper football!

Well done to the All Whites. Showed some real guts.
Yep we scored the same amount of points as last time but we had more goals scored against us. Wish we had the same ref that refereed the Brazil Vs Netherlands game or Spain Vs Netherlands. Common sense ref's whom did not get sucked into the diving BS that goes on the the World Cup.
BTW another fact is Germany scored 4 goals against three teams. Australia, England and Argentina - makes you feel better now. LOL.

BTW Note to all the supposed professionals at Adelaide United whom said Shane Smetltz was not worthy of a place in the team - where are you now.

and once upon a time the all whites would be lucky to get ten spectators at a game properly because they would loose ten nil every time they played a game. times have changed more kids play soccor then rugby in NZ these days

Nup he definately picked Germany over Spain to win the Euro 08 Final. Its the only incorrect prediction in his career so far. Not sure who told you otherwise?
