Looking to upgrade my LX8 Adventra in the coming months when the VEII is released to get a good deal on a SSV demonstrator or similar.
Not sure on wether to go Auto or manual which also means if Auto do i really want AFM or not ? In REAL world driving is it a fuel saving system. if it is how much over above a manual does it save. I live in the Northwest of WA and long 10 -12 hour runs is what it will be mainly doing.
I am also at looking at getting it tuned as well like my Adventra. A tune improved the adventra by giving it more low down torque, economy on the highway went from 16.2l/100 down to 12.9l/100, the auto shift changes were much sharper and with the rev limiter lifted the power of overtaking triple semitrailers on the great northern highway was a breeze. The only mod i did besides the tune was the 2nd hole mod to the aircleaner and installed a K&N filter.
What sort of improvements power and economy can i expect out of both a manual ssv and a auto AFM ssv. Also what is the diff between maf and mafless and what is the procedure to do this. And will any of this void my warranty!!!!!!!
I am also looking for a holden dealer in perth people recomend. I see Shacks in Freo get a pretty good wrap. And is there a prefered sponsor or other in Perth that can do a tune for me or should i go interstate for this. I do live in remote WA which is something to take into cosideration.
Sorry for the questions and long winded post , but i want to make a informed decision before i buy the car.
Cheers

I would buy the auto personally, I like manuals but the auto is starting to get my vote our wagon has one, when you need to overtake a truck you don't need to decide which gear to use just push the throttle pedal, it'll pick the right one. Buy an auto with AFM try it for a while if you don't like the AFM part it's easy to turn off when it's tuned.

Oztrack is achieving remarkable results on both power and economy with AFM cars!! Roonstain I'm sure had his economy into the 6s on a long run with full exhaust, OTR and tune!!
As for warranty with mods - it all depends............. See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=138339
MAF vs mafless has been the subject of many, many threads and the answer is "it all depends............". LOL Please :search: but you're likely to end up confused. Best thing to do is discuss with whoever you get to tune it.

If you are travelling long distance over highway ie. 100+kmh the auto will smash the manual for fuel economy in the city not so much.
The AFM car is always going to cruise less thristy it's only running on 4 cylinders!

when you need to overtake a truck you don't need to decide which gear to use just push the throttle pedal
Or flick the selector over to manual mode and choose yourself! ;)
Remember Emu, AFM isn't active all the time! Only when you're cruising at a speed where the engine doesn't need to labour and can confortably run on 4cyl.

Thanks for your input guys its much appreciatted....I love to get a manual but if the Auto AFM is so much better than manual then i may have to go the Auto. How much does the economy improve on the manual after a tune??????????
Also i like the colour coded dash but the track stripes dont do F$%^& all for me!.
I see the auto is L76 and manual is L98...besides the AFM components what other differences are there betwwen the 2 and is one better than the other?

As I said above, Oztrack is achieving awesome power and economy results with AFM cars with 1 7/8" headers, good cats and catback, OTR and tune. Without tune they're OK but Oztrack is the king of AFM tuning!
You can get the colour coded dash with the track stripes.
Basically the L76 and L98 are identical apart from the AFM gear (lifters, cam, valley plate, extra oil pickup for when in AFM mode).

I probably wont modify the car too much, maybe CAI or similar. So a tune should still get reasonable gains in power and economy. Is there a 2 hole mod to be done to the aircleaner box like i have done to my Adventra????
I might have to get in touch with oztrack to see what gains and dollars are on offer.
Do the colour coded dashes only come in the red and the blue...they seem to be the only ones i have seen. But just cant handle the track stripes...they look ok to some but not me im afraid!

If your not doing a bunch of city driving why would you go auto? Personally I would never buy a V8 with an auto, the manual box appeals to the small part of me that is still a 6 yr old boy watching Bathurst for the first time.

Because the auto cars are far superior for economy on long distance, as an example i recently drove from my house in Perth to Albany down south in WA round trip of 803km i brimmed the tank before i left, jerry can in the boot did the whole trip with the one tank. fuel light came on about 45min from home.
thankyou AFM
