View Full Version : My poor Triton :(

My son and his mate borrowed the Triton to tow one of their drift cars (the other was put on a transporter) down to Adelaide to compete at Mallala. My son Matt didn't qualify and Jeffs front nose came come off, went under the car and pierced a hole in the oil tank! Not knowing this, kept driving until it suddenly went bang!

So after the boys didn't have much luck at the track, they loaded the trailer and headed back to Darwin yesterday morning. They got as far as the Angle Vale turnoff when the trailer swayed a little too far, putting the passenger side wheels onto the dirt. My son was driving at the time and unfortunately over corrected which put the trailer sideways and then jack knifed which inturn pushed them both onto their side at 80km/h!

The boys are a little battered and bruised (luckily seat belts were being worn) but my Triton and car trailer came off 2nd best!! The drift car in the trailer only had a smashed front and rear glass and minor body damage.

I'm really glad the boys are ok as vehicles and trailers can be replaced where as lives can not.

A few photos of the carnage and think they were lucky that its winter and they had a bit of a soft landing.

Good to hear everyone is ok, also shows you the triton is a safe car if they walked away from it relitivly unhurt.

Glad they are fine. I'm curious, did the police give them a hard time?

No, they said the Police were really good and understanding! I guess having NT plates they might've gone a little easier on them and they didn't try and hide anything :)

Im glad to hear everyone was okay :) pity about the triton and trailer though but at least you should be able to get newer replacements with insurance.

Glad no one was hurt seriously. I once jack knifed a trailer carrying an old Mazda van which I was ironically flogging off to a wrecker. Can I ask, what gross load would the trailer/payload have been at? Ever since my "spin", I won't tow with a vehicle that weighs less then the gross trailer/load. My current van is 2tonne tare which makes a big difference for stability when towing liquid loads which can sway.
