Hey guys,

I am wondering if anyone works for Holden who could help me in finding the security code for my 6 stacker from my Vy?

I know I can go into Holden with my Vin number and they can get it for me, but I don't really want to pay to get it done when I am only finding out because another forum member wants the H/U.

Thanks for any help,

Cameron

If your nice enough they might not charge you the $15 to get the code. Try a couple of dealers. Speak to the Spares area first before going to the service depts...

I've heard of people being charged up to $50 for the code!
I'm going to head down to Holden tomorrow anyway and see how I go..

They gave me mine for nothing, although i did buy the car from them and i went to the salesman that sold it to me and he went and got it, didn't realise they would actually charge you for it.

Dealers get it off the computer.

Dealer attitude is if they dont know you (ie. you dont go there for servicing or buying cars) why should they spend the 10-15 minutes to get it for you and not charge you?

A $15-$25 fee isn't unreasonable

I find it totally wrong that you would have to pay for something that you have actually paid for already???????
You have PAID for the car so own that serial code why should you have to pay for it again especially when it would take less time for them to tell you than it did for me to type this up:(

You paid for it as a new car buyer and were given the code with your owners books. If you have lost it go back to the dealer you bought the car new from and they will give it to you.

If you blow into a dealer than you have no relationship with then they have to drop something else to obtain it for you. It takes 10-15 minutes to get it off the computer, on average. If labour is $100 an hour then $25 is fair

Or you could buy the code cracker that suits Blauplunkt like I did yrs ago but cant find it anymore and that gacve you literally the choice of 4 codes for the model/serial No of all radios pre 2007:):)

It literally takes 2 mins for them to get the code off the computer. Atleast it did when I got mine.

If you don't know the dealer, go in there and get a quote for something, then just as you leave, say oh yeah, also any chance of getting the code for my Blaupunkt? Worked for me and I had no relationship with the dealer.

Perhaps the dealer should learn how to use the computer is its going to take them 15 minutes to look up a code.

The local Holden dealer quoted me $50 to get mine; even though
a) I purchased the car from them,
b) When I purchased it, it had a new battery in it.
c) They had serviced it every time for the past 3 years.

So if anyone can look these up it would be great, as I assume my battery has onaly a year left in it.

Planetdavo  might be able to help......he's high up in Holden and has a lot of knowledge..just ask him he will tell you :eyes:

Although from personal experience, he told me that he won't help anyone on the forum he doesn't know....so that makes most of us.

There is absolutely no way most would help anyone that can't prove ownership of the unit, via driving the car in/ rego papers and licence etc. Any dealer that gives it out over the phone, or to someone with a VIN written on a scrap of paper to anyone they don't personally know is a disgrace to the industry, as it's for security reasons this happened in the first place. And yes, this includes people on this forum, as what's to stop anyone on here being either a user loser, or the person who stole it from someone elses car...
Some dealers charge a little, some charge a lot, some charge nothing. Many wont charge if you are there already buying something, but for a blow in that buys nothing and just expects a code for free, pay up.

If someone smashes a window in your car, steals the stereo, writes the vin down from the screen, rings a dealer and gets the code, then sells it on ebay, you might actually learn something today.
Seems you might be part of the problem, rather than part of the solution...:teach:

Unfortunately it does happen ..:bawl:

If all the dealers were to stick to their guns, it might work .

It will not work if I ring you up and get a knock back and then ring the dealer in the next suburb and they give me the code :teach:......

Hence the previous quote..."Any dealer that gives it out over the phone, or to someone with a VIN written on a scrap of paper to anyone they don't personally know is a disgrace to the industry".
Or, it appears, a legend on an internet forum to some people in this thread that can't grasp the concept.

you dont need to go to holden to get the code, any mechanics scan tool can read it im pretty sure, ive had mine read at a mechanics before, took less than 1 min to get.

Plenty of scum out there in society. Most don't actually want them for their own car. They "launder" them (mostly) through internet auction sites, or internet enthusiast forum classifieds.

Took mine into an auto electrician - took him about 5 minutes to determine the code, no charge shook his hand and kept on driving. But, if I ever need auto-elec work, no prizes for guessing who I will go and see first :)

The fact that Holden even puts a code in these things is a joke anyway. The head units are pieces of shit. No one steels these things, they want decent after market gear.

I can understand the reason for the code especially when they were in a new car they were likely to be worth a bit, but now they are worth peanuts and is probably the reason for the relaxed attitude of Holden dealers when getting the codes from them.

Appears a couple of you guys are well out of touch with reality.
Check out ebay now and again. People are paying at least a couple of hundred for any upgrade unit, more for the latest models.

Yeah, thats what I dont understand, You can get aftermarket systems like Pioneer, Alpine, etc and they have no security code to protect those. Yet with the standard Holden Blaupunkt, Eurovox units, they have a security code. And they just dont compare - not even in the same league as the aftermarket gear.

Especially the old Eurovox radio cassette units fitted to the VR - VS Commodores. :errr:

But then again, some people like to maintain the originality I guess. Like Planetdavo said - go onto ebay and have a look, the prices for some of the stock gear will surprise you.

Many people don't think like some of you guys, and that's the trap you've fallen into.
The vast majority of the population have absolutely no desire to upgrade to non factory looking aftermarket gear. Some, however, are prepared to pay for a direct plug in multi stacker upgrade, hence why this money is being paid.

why would someone break in to a vy and steal the head unit? that seem alot of effort!! there is no plug once the head unit is taken out, plus those units are as old as dinosaurs now. there probably in the trash can at your local wreckers these days.

You guys need to listen to this bloke, He knows.. he lives in the real world and works at Holden...

Although I agree why would PPL bother with the stock unit specially without the wiring plug... but what would I know....just my 1c worth.

To be fair there would be a second hand market for poeple with say a VZ exec wanting to upgrade to a calais headunit. As patendavo said, some people like the factory look.
