Bit of advice guys, just driving home about 10 mins ago and coming down Barkly St St Kilda. As I crossed over Carlisle St the red light camera went off about 8 times, just as I got to the intersection, as I went through and continuing after I had gotten through the intersection. Now the light was green and was still green long after I got through, traffic was heavy and as soon as the flash went off I checked my speedo which was showing 41kmh. The road is a 60kmh zone so I have no idea what prompted the camera trigger like that.
I've had a quick look at the Vicroads website and there doesn't seem to be a contact line to ask the question, basically I want to register a complaint/log of the incident if at some point in the future I get a ticket in the mail, not sure what the hell it would be for but I want to cover my bases. I've survived 2.5 years and 100,000kms of driving in Vic without a ticket and I would hate to get one when I'm leaving the state this Saturday.
If it does come and it is a red light fine I spose I can always request the photo to reveal the green light at the time of the alleged offence. Any one had any prior experience with a similar situation?

theres one local to me, that unfailingly takes happy snaps of my car pretty much everytime i go through it, 8 months on and still havent received any fines. i didnt worry about it much cos i wasnt a) speeding b) going through a red light. it could of been a japanese tourist?

Gopt off the phone to the traffic managament centre and the bloke there said he would report it to the people who manage the red light cameras as faulty, he reported that exact camera on 5th July for being faulty as well so here's hoping I don't end up in some stoush with fcukwitroads.

If the trafiic was heavy, why are you so sure it was "victimising" you???
Maybe someone else sped through it from a different lane or the opposite direction, as many are both red light and speed cameras now.

I was going with the traffic, not much in the other direction and as far as I'm aware it is just a red light not a speed cam as well. At what point did I say it was "victimising" me? Comments like that just reinforce the idea that you're an arguementative twat. The normal term would have been targeted or aimed but you chose to use victimising insinuating I was a sore loser or similar.

Dude, it's you who was so convinced something was going to come in the mail that you went to the trouble of posting a thread about it, then found someone to make a report to...:teach: You were convinced you were going to be in trouble before you even know you were. Hmmm, "victimised" by faulty technology I believe it's called..
Substitute a more "agreeable" word if you feel it's so important to your story.

This is a common sight in Melbourne.
Apparently the cameras enter a self-test mode and snap all or most cars going past regardless of speed or if the lights are green. The one on Kings Way does it all the time. It's bloody pathetic and can blind oncoming drivers. The officials say that during this time no infringements are issued and motorists need not worry.
Useless pieces of crap that do nothing for the road toll.

People that have lost a family member or friend after being t-boned by a red light runner might disagree with you, and it's getting much, much worse...

Yeah, but the camera doesn't stop a collision from happening, so therefore it wouldn't have prevented that family member or friend from being killed. Red light cameras have their place, but speed cameras don't. More police on the roads can actively prevent a collision from happening just by waving the flag, but that costs money.

Thought this was predominantly a red light camera thread.
Signs are everywhere saying upcoming interestions have cameras. Time for drivers to behave like adults and take responsibility for their actions.
If truckloads more police hit the beat (which is happening in the academy), are you going to complain about an increase in taxes to pay for them???
We live in an era of technology. Some you like (cheap plasmas perhaps?), some you don't (potential fines).
i wouldnt worry about it. it if comes in the mail and your out of the state for a while ull be able to contest it when you get back. and yes you can always ask for a photo (well in sa u can)
as for the argument on revenue vs saftey
i hate this nanny state crap as much as any other person and most of these cameras are for revenue, but red light cameras are not a bad idea and probably the only thing that has a chance of saving lives.

what i thought was interesting about speeding fines in victoria is they dont show proof of you speeding on the infringment they send out. The cheeky bastards charge you for it, if you request it.
here in the west a picture is included that shows the numberplate and driver. Without it they cant charge you.

In Sydney - Forest Road and ..... uhhh Stoney Creek Road maybe? The Red Light Camera goes nuts everytime the orange comes on. It just pops off shots at random. Does it every time I can remember pulling up to these lights.
