Hello,
I am wanting to buy a VE ssv ute for myself as a work car
*tax write off mainly* it would see little use, only around 150km's a week or so.
After a test drive today of one, I was blown away of help it felt, even for a heavy car it moves!, hooks up nice with the ESP off..
Handles pretty well, lacks a little down load/early mid range, but a intake and exhaust this will solve that problem.
I just want to know is there any bad things you guys have had with the ve-ss at all?
Any common problems, defects etc....
Any hits, tips etc would be great.
Buying a brand new one from the dealer
also if anyone just picked one up, how much did you pay?

Have had and MY09 SSV ute for a couple of years and is now highly modified, apart from a clip breaking on the sun visor l've had no warranty issues (touch wood)
They just released a recall about the tail gate but havent recieved word that the fix is being released yet. A new car should already have it done l'd assume.

Same here. Reasonably modified MY9.5 SSV ute with almost 22,000km on it. No problems to date and even the A6 is a big improvement over the A6 that was in my Mar 07 built SSV sedan.

Not owning one personally, only from a mate and workshop opinions, that if getting manual the clutch seems to cause some people issues, sticking etc??? don't know if it's been rectified, my mate is about to book in a chevs for an overhaul to fix the problem.....other than that he uses his everyday, towing big loads, reasonably modified as well, still going strong and no dramas to my knowledge......they're a good bit of kit!!

Have had mine since Dec-08, 16,000km mainly around town. Regularly have over 500kg in the back and it handles it with ease. Tailgate has been an issue as previously mentioned. The motor is noisier which the dealer assures me is normal.

Rather then make another topic,
Are any of you guys running a edit?
and a OTR intake?
If so what brand of intake? Price?
also what power are you guys making

Best thing to do for that is look in My Ride section for VEs as there are a million different combinations of exhaust/intake/tune etc.. The mods hate those generic questions as it's all been asked before. Also check the forums on here of sponsors in your area in particular as well as anywhere.

As has been said the clutch is an issue. i have not had too many probs but i dont give too much of a hard time too often.
Another thing is the sump seal weeps a litte. but its made by mexicans. not enough sealer can be sorted under waranty.
cheers

The brakes are marginal especialy with a load in the back
I know you can drive around that but they really need upgrading

Great thread for someone like myself who will be in the market for a used SSV ute at the end of the year.
Trying not to take over the OP's thread but just a couple questions;
1. How do you guys find driving an SSV ute, m6, in traffic? Just regarding the possible sticking clutch and just the stop start stuff. I know an auto would be more suitable for daily duties as Mon-Fri im stuck in traffic but i just cant help think when im eventually on an open road i'd love a manual!
2.Are there any problems one should look for in a used 07/08 SSV M6, say ones with 20-40k's on the clock?
Cheers,
Michael.

Jan 08 Build SSV M6 ute with 103,000kms. Was driving from Elwood to Bayswater almost everyday interspersed with frequent trips to Phillip Island on the weekend in Summer and Mt Buller in Winter. Has full exhaust OTR and tune, clutch was really my only problem, had Chev replace it with a Mal Wood option 3, bit heavier than stock but worth every penny, never had any issues with the clutch since. Never been to teh strip and not really my thing but in heavy traffic it's great, not too heavy to become tiresome in my opinion but not fantastic if you've just finished a squat session in the gym.
If your going used the clutch is the biggest thing I would be looking at, drive a couple of newish demonstrators to get a feel for what a stock clutch feels like and compare with the 2nd hand ones you drive. Hopefully you can pick something up that someone has done the clutch on already but you'll probably only find that out if you buy private, most dealers wont have a clue.

Yeah im thinking maybe rock up to a dealer and take a new one out for a spin and then ive got something to compare the 2nd hand private ones i'll drive to.

When was the first ve ss released?
I just want to get an idea on what it will be worth to resell after my lease it up so I can work out my repayment plan and balloon payout figure.

From memory official VE release Aug 06.
MY10 SSV 6 speed from new, now with 16,000kms on it.
All is well except for a small but persistent knocking around the front passenger wheel assembly. Probably related to aftermarket spring & strut but have been back to shop & cannot be found (will put stock back in & see what happens).
Daily driver in Sydney traffic, no problems.
Exhaust & tune put on a few months back. Fun but too loud for me now, must mean I'm too old (want to buy a near new 3" stainless catback?)

As mentioned, check out the clutch. I believe 08 was around the period when they were having the most problems. I got mine replaced twice. gearbox can be clunky as well and may have issues getting into 2nd and 3rd without grinding. I'd also look out for suspension rattles in the front and the dodgy tailgate.

Correct. Around Aprilish? time the ute came out and the VZ thunder ute stopped.
Wonky's date of Aug 06 was when the VE sedan was released.

Yeah, silly me! The question only asked when the first VE SS was released but I should have put two and two together and realised he actually meant ute.......
