Mate I have had an Adventra which is the same running gear as the Cross 8 and it was a great car. But if you want a manual and don't need the extra ground clearance, weight and extra fuel usuage of the AWD system get the Crewman. I have a mate that has had one since 2004 and they are good,

If you want a manual , you'll have to get the SS Crewie , A mate has one and never uses 6th gear ,
He's a tradie and has 3 kids in their teens , meets his needs .

If you can go with out the manual go the Cross 8 or XUV , the grip :goodjob:

I have had a Cross8 since 2004 ,they are heavy on fuel 17-18 per hundred ,I put mine on lpg ,very good but short range with donut tank, steering very heavy, difficult to park without reversing sensor, ride very comfortable, would probably go for a diesel crew cab rodeo ,nissan or toyota

As said above, if you prefer a manual, you wont be getting an Avalanche or a Cross 8.

Mate I had the SSZ Crewman with the upgraded PBR brakes. I also had a mate with the SS Crewman and for a 2 tonne car/ute it is definately wise to have the upgraded brakes.

It was floaty stock but with kings and munroes it stiffened the ride up and made it feel like more of a sedan.

The crewman was a good choice for a 5 seater especially if you want a bigger than standard boot but it also sacrifices in both areas. The tray isnt that big and to fit something like a bike on the back you need the tailgate down and put it on the angle.

I never really sat in the back except once when I was really morerolling around so I didnt get the full feel but even from sitting in the back to clean it I couldnt imagine the back seat being that comfortable for anything more than a 100km trip. It has less back seat room than say a dual cab Triton but it also has the power and sound of a V8...:)

I ended up selling it as we were having a baby and the capsule/seat wouldnt fit in the back.

FWIW it is great if you dont mind a bit of compromise for the "luxury" of having a back seat and a tray but you really need to weigh up what you want it for and what you are happy to compromise on. If you have3 larger kids and the missus in the car it will be very tight but maybe just get a loud stereo or cam to drown out the complaints.

I also had a friend with the Avalanche and the back seat seemed to be more comfortable in that.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:
P.S When you get it sideways you really notice how long it is when you take up the whole road... :) You also notice how big they are when its parking time.

Was your 17-18lt per 100kms stock ?

I just outsmarted the wife with her nagging to sell my manual SS , i told her to add the rego and insurance together , then divide it by 52 , and look at that i cost $20 a week to let it sit in the garage
So im steering towards AWD auto , for boat ramp duties , our trips to the snow at lake moutain so i can drive to the top car park
My kids are ages 6 and 8 so i should be a while before they complain about the back seat and leg room

Does any one have any power increase and fuel figures on thier Cross 8's or Avalanche with edits extractors and exhausts

I have a triton for a company vehicle and mates with new rodeos , navaras and hilux , thier ride quality not what im looking for

If ya get a cross 8 a tune and more air would be good .

My XUV and it gets 10-12l per 100 on the highway .

yeah XUV's are a nice smooth drive with the extra ground clearance, its always going to be quite tight in the rear seats but hopefully you already knew this. and fuel wise i get around 12-14L depending how its driven. but i also have a supercharger on it which helps economy

the only other thing I can think of is the factory tow kit .

Cross 8's - 2500kg
XUV's - 2100kg , you could of course put the bigger bar on .

The leaf rear end makes them a great tow vehicle .

we have had our cross 8 since new in 2004.

bloody great car to drive, handles well, grip is unreal, can put 5 people in it, carry stuff in the tray, and tow anything. probly the best car iv ever used for towing.

the bad is the fuel, it uses lots! got a tune and otr, which helped alot with fuel economy and performance, but it still chews through it.
also the turning circle is equal to a mack truck.

they are pretty good off road too, iv drivin on the beach, up mud hills. i went where a navara 4x4 couldnt go! has enough ground clearence to get over most stuff.
