hi guys..
just wondering if anyone has, or knows of any places to get Edelbrock rocker covers from for an LS1...
Also, if anyone knows of anyone that does fuel rails and crossover and fittings for the LS1 aswell...all I seem to be able to find is the boring old billet ones!
thanks!!

A quick Google of "LS1 Edelbrock Rocker Covers" shows that they do rocker covers but they are the ones that cover the coils packs and everything. They're called Coil Covers, as opposed to Rocker Covers. Have a search and you'll see.

if you are talking about the rocer cover covers, then yeah autobarn can get them or ebay.. dandenong do have a set,

i got my set from them... they told me there were bolt on.... they do need a bit of modifying... if your handy with the tools and dont mine cutting into a new car part, with an idea in your head... then go for it..

passenger side bolts up, but drivers side will have to be modifyed because of the brake booster... and if you have a manual... well i have an auto and it was a hard job. and i still dont have all the bolts in the drivers side, because they wont fit because of clearance..

good luck

I got mine from ebay as it was the cheapest option, they shipped out fast too.

I have one side on atm and i have ground the rhs one and will fit it soon. I found the wiring harnesses had to have the insulation removed in some areas to get more length then be insulated again to fit under the covers. They look great though and make them look like a v8 again.

The exact ones i got:- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CHEV-5-3L-5-7L-6-0L-IGNITION-COIL-COVER-EDELBROCK-4118-/370326837079?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5639331757

Black:- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CHEV-5-3L-5-7L-6-0L-IGNITION-COIL-COVER-EDELBROCK-41183-/160399113220?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2558883c04

He did have the polished versions when i purchased but he doesnt have a listing for these up atm.

If anyone else has these fitted can they post up pics. When i asked i found about 2 pictures of them fitted to Australian cars.

just rember there not an wasy fit.... thinking about it i also had to modify the left hand side because of the fuel line. and the right hand side needed alot of modding, onto and underneath

nothing a die grinder wont fix
as long as the bolt holes line up, everything else shouldnt really matter

You would have to cut even more if you have rocker cover spacers too....

I had to modify the pcv hose (Harrop blower) on the left bank also.

die grinder.... i did mine with a 4" grinder, also rember to leave enough room so that when the motor torques, it doesnt hit the brake booster... i fitted mine, went for a drive, and it vibrated like hell, then had to take heaps more off...

but they look good.

So these aint i direct bolt up for a manual vy ss?

brycieboy
12-08-2010, 07:30 PM
definatly not... im not sure what car there made to directly bolt onto! most likley an american car. brake booster is in the way, and im pretty sure it would hit your clutch res.

so they have to be modified? thats devo

Edelbrock designed these for hotrods in mind, so fitment into "x" model car wasnt really thought of.

thanks guys quite helpuful!! iv seen the set on ebay...and the pictures that were posted are of the exact covers im looking at...i didnt know until that they wouldnt be a direct fit on...so now i will think a little longer on it!
so, the holes line up but its a case of clearence and other bits nd peices from what i read?

brycieboy

when you fit them, you take off your couls, and remove them from the bracket, then mount them to the underside of the covers. once modifying the covers, you then bolt them down onto the existing holes with the suplied bolts..

so yeah they line up with all the holes, but i couldnt get all of them in due to clearance issues, where there wassnt enough room to fit the bolt.

Looks good mate. Seriously considering buying a set of these and doing the necesary mods. Just got to decide whether I want the do cast, polished, black or get a cast set and have them sprayed/powdercoated in red (my duco i red). Was it much pain to fit? Can you send us the rough measurements/template of your cut near the brake booster/clutch res or would it be easier to just do it trial and error. Mine has a HTV1900 sitting in the middle but I don't imagine there should be too much dramas as there seems to be a bit of space in the centre area.

None-the-less your engine by looks great.

????????

Why would you fit them if you were putting the plastic covers over them - kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it? Just put the plastic covers over them and pretend you have them - will save you the $.

I really like these as the stock platic ones are pretty ordinary.

The seller has advised that you do not need to modify these at all to fit past te clutch reservoir.

Finally had some time to fit the right hand cover today. Only need to clearance slightly more near the last bolt hole (only hitting slightly on hard acceleration) which i will do tomorrow and that bolt will not be fitted either (not needed)

Also had to move the brake master cylinder lines away slightly and the dipstick tube now rests against the cover but thats no biggy.

The only thing left is to find a nice oil cap, anyone know of any nice ones that will match my aluminium looking setup????

You've pretty much listed everything. Just bend the lifting eye slighty, I think I unbolted one bolt from PS res' which was enough to get it out the way. Took heaps off around the booster side. Even now at maximum/(foot to the floor) revs I can feel a slight vibration when the donk kicks right over, needs a little trim. Dipstick needs to be bent out quite a bit. Once you sit them on the engine you can see what needs to be done. Good luck:)

So kind of bumping an old thread here but was wondering if anyone had issues with heat killing coils packs or any other issues they attribute to these covers? Kind of tossing up between getting some of these covers or relocating the coil packs.

Couldn't be any worse at retaining heat than the stock covers?

kameleon
04-09-2011, 09:52 AM
It is probably better since they do not seal up against anything and the spark plug lead areas are totally open.

I have had no issues nor power loss since fitting them.

Just a FYI don't just bend your dipstick tube. i did this and it would vibrate against the abs pump at times. If you look closely you can see i have filed a recess into the side of the right hand cover that fits the tube in perfectly to get a close to stock fitment.
