Please include suburb/town or general area if country that you're insured in otherwise it's pretty meaningless. Even a few kilometres can make a big difference to your premium.

Well i have a few questions and think this may be the best place to ask.

Current Insurance (due to re-insure on the 10th of sept)

Age: 25
State: NSW
Car : VE SSV Headers / Exhaust / Mafless Tune / OTRCAI / Lowered / Rims
Price: $1652 (excess $1000)
Rating: No Claim Bonus Max

Now the issue i have is NRMA will not give me a written letter that i am covered with the following modifications. I am concerned as i've heard some stories from various reputable people that in the case of an accident they will wipe their hands clear of you and not cover you or anyone else involved if it was your fault.

I know shannons should cover me but there price is around $3500 because im not in a car club. How do i join a car club? Could i join an internet car club and would that be sufficient? Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

no point quoting premiums with out the excess as you can have low premuim but heavy excess.

try ammi they are cheap and so far no bad coments about them that i heard:)

At work we deal with all Insurance companies and I think AAMI is the worst, they always try and use second hand parts wherever they can, The worst ive seen when they couldnt find a New BF Goodrich tyre as that size out of stock in Aust they organized a second hand tyre with about 50-60% tread, the owner just put in a little bit of cash and purchased 2 Goodyears, Why pay the insurance cost if your still going to have to put out for parts? They are the same with hang-on panels, second hand is fine.

Racv have been one of the best, every part for them is Brand new and Genuine from the manufacturers, obviously they charge a little more for cover though.

I was with GIO since I was 17 then when my wife got the VY there offer was crazy so we went with alionz, then 2 years on there price went up and the agreed value fell through the floor so I rang shannons

man I have the house covered with them I have the family truckster with them and the Chev is insured as a project, only made a no fault clame so far but service was great

It's a lease so insurance is cheap and I mean CHEAP....my sister is also an insurance broker so she searched for the best deal under a lease option.

Hey Guys,

Im looking for some advice/information as i look to get some quotes for my next car.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2008 VE SSV ute, manual. Im 21 and have a clean insurance record, only 1 small 2 point speeding fine.

What price should i be aiming for my premium? I was hoping to try and hit 1400 but im not sure.

The ute will, over a long period of time, get some treatment in terms of mods but the most i seeing is going maybe 1-2years down the track is a cam. Therefore insurance needs to allow for this. Just cars quote was 1591 for premium with a 2450 excess.

Any help or info will be appreciated!

Cheers,

Michael.

P.S - Sorry i forgot to mention the ute is locked away everyday at work in the basement and at night is locked away in our garage in a good quiet suburb.

Just did an online AAMI insurance quote;

adjusted the standard excess from 400 to 1450 total excess to lower my premium.

Premium came to $1,388.87. Not bad, but what is AAMI's thoughts on mods?

.. but accord to them I'm getting about $1200 in "discounts" for multiple policies, years with RACV, rating-one, etc, etc??!!

.. and the kicker is that my wife (listed driver on my policy) hit a roo in her FG XR6 earlier in this year (insured with QBE, no claim bonus still intact) and when I told RACV they put up my premiums. Time to transfer SV8, motorbikes, house insurance, etc somewhere else.

I'm with AAMI and I pay $134 monthly ($1458 yearly with 10% disc) and have the following particulars.

2008 SSV Ute
Postcode 3805
Age 30, Male
Excess is $500
2 claims last year (thank you to the person in Cairns who scraped my car and was no where to be seen, the other was where I smashed my front bumper on my new houses surprisingly deep gutter).
2 speeding fines <10kms in the past three years.
Rating 1 for life (before the 2 incidents last year)
Contents insurance with AAMI also.
No premium hire car (you get a car for up to 14 days at $20 a day currently)
No windscreen replacement

Everywhere else has been a great deal more expensive, I don't think I have seen anything really worth changing to. AAMI handled both of my claims extremely quickly and I got a new bumper for the repair instead of just patching it up - considering it was hit from underneath they probably could of.

Interesting! We used to live in 3804 which I'm sure would have similar/identical rating to 3805 just down the road and my SSV sedan was insured from new with AAMI (again rating 1 for life, no claims in almost 10 years now) and my premium was about $850. When we moved further out it dropped slightly and remained about the same for my ute. I'm puzzled why your premium is so much more (my excess is also standard, not increased to reduce my premium). Or does Rating 1 for life somehow become circumvented if/when you do make claims?

Mate got to be happy with that, I thought mine was cheap.

Just thought to mention to, the young fellas with V8s, did you ever consider getting you parents to insure the car in there names, we did it for our 19 yr old who owns a VY clubby, we done it through NRMA and for 25k we paid $720, otherwise it was going to cost him around 1800-2000 in his name, but if he does end up pranging the car you have to pay an extra 800 excess on top of the other, but still cheaper in the long run, expecially if he doesnt.

One potential disadvantage with that is depending on the insurance company they may not give him any credit for a car not in his name, so a few years down the track he will still be on top rating.

True, but we are just doing it for the first year, also told him Im not wearing any fines he may get in the car, but hes pretty good for a young fella.

Also wonky Im not to sure on the rating system, so how do you know what rating your on when you do your insurance, as it always ask rating 1-5, does it mean how many years without a claim ??

hey guys,

Age:20, 21 in march
Car: custom vx wagon, bagged rear. kitted, exhaust, tint, rims, stereo etc...
Cover: full comp
Location: melbourne
Rating: clean record, 1 parking fine haha:)
Cost: (because of the bags, and age) $1790

Im soon converting my vx into a ls1 out of a vt berlina wagon. Then it will be cam'ed bigger throttle boddy exhaust tune etc,(295rwkw+) apparently i dont need it engineered and vic roads will switch it on their records as soon as its in, insurance said they will change it once im off my p's (march)

How much more can i be expected to pay? as im comming off my p's which should drop the premium but also dropping in the ls1 which should bump it right up

Thanks for any advice in advance

I'm guessing no claims either, CGU sux, I investigate their claims, among 20 other insurers, only ones that specify a recorded interview with 4 pages of preset quetions. No other insurer (including all majors) does this.

Avalanche LS1 $800 - excess $550
VE RB Tourer $1000 - excess $500 both have bolt on mods although agreed value for tourer is 25k more, go figure. AAMI (no questions or checks in 3 claims over past 3 yrs, rating 1 protection, they also let me pay $20 for this AFTER I rolled and wrote off a vehicle in Qld and rang to report it.)

I dunno bout that claim i am with AAMI we i aquaplained off the road during a cyclone 2 years ago,all i could see damage wise was a busted right side skirt an my left exhaust peeled around to the headlight. $16,500 dollars in repairs later including new stainless exhaust instead of mild, all new plastics new badges, full respray later all good. i pay around $1400 a year but its a hsv i have cam cai mafless exhaust stero suspension etc listed with em.$500 excess rating 1 for life im 28 joined with em wen i was 25 lots of speeding fines an 1 disqulifiation an 1 suspension. went to put gf on she is 21,was told for occusional driver as long as they have my permision they r covered to drive car....... no extra cost to policy

Went to Suncorp:

Have just renewed my insurance with A&G Insurance bit of a story to it though.
Received my renewal letter in the mail and it had gone up (again :vpo:) $960, so thought bugger this ill do a bit of shopping around.

So over the next few days i was online doing quotes and such and the cheapest i could find was Budget $820 next was Shannons at $860 and thats with all the mods listed for both.
Thought well ill go with Shannons, modified car etc, Then last night i was bored so i thought i would do an online quote with A&G Insurance just for a laugh to see what it would come up with.

Nearly fell off the chair it came up with $729

Got on to the phone with them today and asked why the difference, the guy checked a few things couldnt come up with an answer so he said ill check with the team leader and call you back, well couple of hours later he rang back and PRESTO it was down to $729 :dancenana: and thats with all the mods listed.

Didnt tell me how or why just said that was the new premium.
Just goes to show ALWAYS ring/shop around every year, think they must rely on people just paying it no questions asked.

Same here, one not at fault claim, was assured would have no effect on my premium but now the renewal is due and SGIC wants an extra $160~ bucks. They're still the cheapest by far, around $850 for my wagon, stock standard, $400 basic excess, 26 year old driver.

I was hoping premiums might improve once my wife hit 25, but no difference. Also, as soon as you mention mods that you hope to do (catback, otr) premiums double or they won't insure you.

hows this for a deal, Im using my clubsport as security for a chev silverado we just bought Im with shannons at $707 per year, if I stay with them my premium goes up because we use it for security on a financed car, so were we got the finance from for the chevy they will insure the clubby for $611 & use it for security with no penaltys, seems premiums get cheaper as we get older,

anyone else had this issue

cgu $616.92 for my ve clubby with mods, was $719 with shannons but we used it for security when my son bought the silverado & had to change to cgu due to the finance, I was happy with shannons but $112 savings is not too bad maybe I might get quotes on all my other toys

Just ordered my insurance with shannons.

Car VX
Age 25 Male
Premium $2238
Excess $500
1 Claim (3 years ago, $13k)
6 Demerit Points (2 years ago)

Amount Covered $65k.

Mostly i like the ability to pay per month for no extra cost. Still is a lot of money to spend each year when the car gets driven so very very rarely.

A few people are not including one critical piece of info and that is where they live because that can have a huge effect on premiums as well. Living in a suburban area with a reputation for thefts and prangs is a lot different to insuring in a one store country town in the middle of nowhere.

All too true however some companies have some strange ways of calculating premiums on location, I live in employer supplied house there are 12 houses in a small estate close to the factory where I work.

I moved two houses around the corner and when I informed AAMI that my address had changed they wanted to increase the premium on my VE by $126 they could not explain this increase to my satisfaction so I cancelled about $2000 worth of premiums with them and moved over to RACQ insurance and saved on new premiums.
