i've searched and searched to find how to change abs module and came up with people that have changed but no mention of how:bawl:

so i'm going to change the ABS MODULE on the misses VT SS ( http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VT-VX-V8-ABS-TRAC-CONTROL-MODULE-C-O-REPAIR-SERVICE-/180546114779?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories )
what i need to know is, what is required to get the old 1 off, is it just the 6 torque bit screws or is it the top 4 and does any thing else need to be unpluged?

thanks Garry

yea mate theres only the 6 torque screws, undo the 2 13mm nuts that hold the abs unit to the car (only undo them enough to lift it up, couple of turns) as it allows you to lift the unit up a few cm's to access the connector underneath and makes the whole job a lot easier..

Yeah these ABS modules flog out fairly easily. Sent mine down to Sydney and they replace all the linkages inside with new stuff that is better than the crummy factory ones. Think it was $250 all up at the time.

One of the biggest causes of them packing up is when people wash their engines moisture gets into them.

I'm just about to embark on this exercise too (VX Berlina wagon), but I need to minimise downtime on the vehicle. The refurb service I see on eBay wants me to send in my original module in exchange for the refurbed/repaired unit. (Anyone got a better idea? There's a big difference between the $800 for a complete, new unit, and the $150 for the repair service. And if the new unit has the same fault as the current one, it's just another time bomb, albeit with a 10 year fuse.)

If I read the other posts to this thread correctly, the actual module change process is pretty straightforward—just unscrew the 6 torx screws, and simply replace the control module. Yes?

What's behind the control module? Is it practical to contemplate driving the car with the control module removed? (while I send it off to the guy to have it exchanged) Or is the car out of action until a control module is screwed back in place? I'm not talking about the entire ABS unit here, just the electronic bit on the front. I currently have the module (electrically) disconnected, because it was stuffing up too many other things (and everything except the cruise control is working fine again with the ABS disconnected). The car is quite drivable as it is, but without having pulled the ABS module apart, it's not obvious whether or not there's something inside that needs to be 'protected' from the 'outside world'.

yep no probs driving with the module out of the car. just the abs/trac don't work.
when you pull it out it has about nine springs that act as solenoids, no oil or liquid is behind the unit that you pull out!
hope this give some confidence.

That was great. Thanks. Module out (10 min), repaired ($150), and replaced (10 min). All associated problems rectified.

I have photos, but I'll have to work out how to post them. If anyone's interested, yell and I'll make the effort.
