Can anyone tell me where the bleed valve or screw is on the VY 5.7 for draining the air out of the coolant system.

I cant for the life of me find it :(

Its not on the themostat, that only has bolts that actually attach the themo to the block.

Oh yeah, probalby no posts on this username, had to make a new one because i lost my old account due to forgot password (fresh install of windows) and moved away from ISP so cant use the recovery PW function due to that email is now dead..

EDIT: on no this is my old account lol i must have been using the other new one i created at work ages ago at home for a long time out known it haha DOH!

Any advice is appreciated :)

Im interested in this as well. According to the Gregories manual they dont have a bleed screw.
I have to do the coolant on my VY SS ute very soon as well.

Can anyone offer a step by step guide on how to do it correctly - Is it an easy job to do, anything to look out for?

Due to the header tank being above the engine there is no issue of an air lock in the LS1's. Its self bleeding so to speak as all the air ends up in the tank.

Ok here were my steps

1. Remove overflow lid
2. Remove bottom radiator pipe (had to jack the car up for this one as the screw was up side down, probably from last mech doing it on a hoist).
3. Remove top radiator pipe
4. Remove both hoses that come from radiator to the block (one goes into the themostat).
5. Remove thermostat
6. Flush radiator with hose until water is clear
7. Flush from top of block until water coming out where thermostat was is clear
8. Flush all hoses
9. flush from top of over flow tank
10. Let sit for a while to drain
11 Replace all hoses and top up with new coolant

It took just a little over 7lts of coolant.

I ran her in the driveway for about 3-5 minutes while getting the mrs to check i had all the hoses tight (had the heater on too) and the overflow was draining down (meaning i have good vacumm going in the system), then took her for a small drive until the heat hit its normal temp (just under half way between the 2 middle lines).

Came home, felt all was good so went to shops about 20ks away and bought new CORE I3 lappy to keep mrs happy :)

Try not to get any coolant on your belts either or paint, its not good for anything but cooling engines.

I had to remove the OTR as well to get to the top pipe on the engine, not sure if you have to do this if you are still running the stock intake.

Then came home and checked hoses

I went and bought some ls1 coolant from holden and it's red.

The coolant already in the car is green. Does anyone know if the 2 are compatible?

No they are not compatible. You will have to flush the entire system fully. This means removing the thermostat to allow full flow through the engine which you should always do anyway.

I hear the red is the better stuff anyway and that the Holden stuff is the best for the car. Not always the norm with holden stuff but in this case it seems to be the general consensus from all my readings today.

Did you have the heater on/open whilst flushing?

Thanks Glen for your instructions.
Seems easy enough. Ive done flushes on Ecotec's, and Nissan RB30's in VL's. And it appears easier to do a flush on an LS1 compared to those.

Nice ute you have as well - Looked in your profile and found it. Click here (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=134409) if you want to have a squiz at my VY SS Ute.

Yes, Have the heater open when flushing and refilling.

easy way for some peace of mind is to run it without putting the cap on the header tank, or at least leave it loose to let some air out.
