View Full Version : lowering a WM Caprice
Im after some information or feed back from WM owners that have lowered their cars. I have done some research and came up with SSL Kings springs and Monore sports shocks, this will lower the car approx. 50/60mm, Im trying to maintain some ride quality, and dont want it scraping over speed humps.
I would like to hear from other owners that gone this low or lower and any issues they have found when lowering a WM Caprice.
Thanks Allan

hey buddy how ya doin, I have a 2007 WM Caprice and did a little bit of research on this myself. End result I went with Walkinshaw Performance springs and kept the standard shocks. The Walkinshaw springs according to the literature stiffens the front up by about 15% and the rear by about 25% and I have had this set up on my WM for about a yr now and I am really happy with it!! i have HSVi 20" Supersports on the barge and the height is really top notch, no scrapin and it really fills the wheel arches!!

i dont own a WM so my advice may not be all that creditable but my experience with most stato/caprice/granges (and my WH) is that with whatever spring you choose if you go one size lower in the rear it will sit level, most tend to sit up high in the rear, spose its good for towing etc but looks much better sitting level :-)

im spewin went and put some photos on photobucket so I could post the URL on here so you could have a look but you have to have posted 20 times to add to garage or URL is that correct? anyway the barge does sit really nice with the Walkinshaw springs and the ride is a lot better but because I kept stock shocks it still has that luxury quality!! :)

If you go lower than about an inch, then definately ditch the stock shocks/struts as is your intention.
They are rubbish and you'll end up floating along like the QE11.

HRT8 im not sure how low the Walkinshaw springs actually did lower my Caprice but I can tell you that with a decent alignment, it sits on the road quite nicely, I have had a few Holdens in my day too with varying degrees of suspension upgrades from VB SLE310 pack with konis oils allround,Lovells A9X springs every bush urethane biggest sway bars etc, to vk wagon with pedders allround supersport gas with adjustable panhard rod, to VQ with konis etc. All Im sayin is I found the Walkinshaw springs gave it a really nice stance, stiffened it up just nicely without losing total comfort, and in my opinion were quite good, and at high speed the WM seems to sit quite well on the road. If i could upload I would give you the URL on Photobucket but it wont let me oh well will have to get my post count up.:)

Actually just had a squiz at the spiel on the Walkinshaw springs it says they are meant to lower your VE between 25-30mm although on the Caprice I reckon they made about 35-40mm difference. And for what its worth if I were to change the shocks I wouldnt go Monroe personally, I have had Pedders Supersport Gas, Koni oils, KYB, and Bilsteins in different cars at different stages, and if they are available to suit I would be going Koni oils, adjustable, repairable and real value for money IMO, but not sure if they make em to suit VE/WM? Does anyone know if the Koni oils are available for VE/WM?

Call Wholesale Suspension, a form sponsor. Whilst I have not purchased from them, their advice and technical knowledge is excellent

Just put the URLs on here without the www and someone else with 20+ posts will post them for you.

Daz, Ive just finnished installing a diff and a set of Koni's combined with Tien springs into my WM Caprice.
With fronts set soft and rear slightly firmer, the ride is much nicer than with the lowered Tien's and stock holden rubbish shocks/struts.
Well worth the effort and expense.
