Symmons plains v8 supercars

Hi All

I am heading to the v8 supercars race next week (1st trip ever to tasmania).

Was wondering if any locals can shed some light on the following for me:

1) How long a drive is it from the hobart airport to the race track?
2) Do i need a hire car, or are there plenty of taxi?
3) Where is a good but cheap place to stay?

Hi mate, I don't live there anymore but I did for 30 odd years. Hobart airport to Symmons Plains is an hour and a half roughly, so I'd fly into Launceston if I were you. Launceston airport to the track is roughly 30 mins, if that..Personally hiring car is the go, cheap enough for a small run around one these days. Not sure what your budget is for accommodation but theres plenty of cheap places, just try the usual websites for Motels..The Old Tudor Motor Inn is ok for a quick stay, and the right price from memory..

Unfortunately I got the advice before I booked the flights (I was a little excited) so I am flying from Perth into hobart. Given the distance from hobart to the track a taxi is out of the question so i will hire a car and try and find a hotel nearby.

one more question.

is it worth getting a grandstand ticket? I am not sure how busy this race gets. If so does the turn 2 or the main straight grandstand have a better view?

not worth it mate the track has a good bank around it and its not a big track just get your self a seat and your good to go. one grandstrand faces the pits with your back to the rest of the track and the other is on the outside of the first corner, not a bad spot but you can sit or stand either side of it and get the same view.
