I have pacey's long 4 into 1, 2.5 catback, crossover halfway down before the 2 mufflers, twin pipe exit.
So i got the cam put in, all tuned up and as I thought, the cats were holding it back a bit. Car had an awesome note, nice growl when opened up just holding back thats all.
Anyway got my hands on some venom high flows, 2.5, 100 cpsi.
Now it sounds real nice up to 2500 revs but like a frikin harley above that, real tiny. Im almost about to put the stock ones back on . I thought if any thing it would deepen right through the rev range.
What do you guys think as far as options go? Im due back for a touch up tune but Im highly doubtfull it can be "tuned" out.
Cheers
Jas.
it will take a few hundred kay's for them to 'carbon up' and should settle down a bit. My ballistic cats got a bit deeper and quite a bit quieter after a week or so of driving. Not sure how the venom cats compare but shouldnt be too different.

Thanks for the response VN.
Did you go for 100cpsi as well? And did you experience similar change of note above the 2.5-3k rev range?
Like at the moment she sounds tough as at idle through to 2.5rpm with the cam and tune but im reluctant to open it up because it sounds like a Harley when I do (and not a very good one).
I have noticed fuel usage has gone up too but like I mentioned its due for a fine tune soon but Im wondering if the sound can be "tuned" down or if like you say, wait for it to settle in.
cheers
Jas.

all my exhausts have gotten louder and deeper after they have had a few heat cycles through them and fromt he word go have had the sound that they made when they aged.
What exhaust is it? What mufflers do you have?
yeah I went for the ballistic 100cpsi in 4" body 2.5" in/out. have to say it sounds awesome throughout the rev range, but ive only got a stock cam so hard to compare.

Would probably sound heaps better with a propper " Kiss " setup like an X crossover rather than a balance pipe like you have, thats what makes them sound like a 253 statesman.

Correct me if im wrong but they look like Tri-y extractors
Also the 'H' pipe in the catback would have some bearing on the exhaust note.
Is the catback a HSV one with rear hotdogs?

Do you reckon that before the new cats went in that the system was probably on the verge of maxing out? And that after, the "balancer" is causing the tinny sound? Im all for ideas especially before my next Tune. Really im not happy at all about this. My brother allmost got a punch in the mouth when he said it sounds like "a frikin honda shitbox". :flipoff:

Hi Benny,
Yeah 4 into 1, just tricky angle i guess. Also the catback was custom, but yes to the hotdogs after the mufflers but before the tips.

I tend to agree that you also have Tri Y extractors not 4 into 1.
Hi flow cats will make it sound different and amplify any bad sounds like you are getting due to higher flow.
What i would suggest is getting it redone from behind the rear cats to the front of the mufflers like this.

Thanks for the feed back guys. I'll go see old mate at A1 exhaust tommorow and see if swapping out the balancer pipe for a proper X over is the go.
cheers guys.

How much drone (if any) are you getting with the twin hotdogs at the rear?

It is your cat back that is making sound "shit in your opinion" 4 into 1 and hiflo cats on any 5.7 will sound very similar, its the cat back that creates the "unique note"
If you're on a budget, id suggest DiFilippo mild steel cat back and be done with it.

*update...
Ive put 200k on the clock since the install and its actuall getting better. How I dont know, since it shouldnt really "carbon up" only the rest should of?
So I'll give it another couple of hundred k's and see if it settles more.
Ned, there wasnt a drone just a 2 stroke motor cross kinda sound in a certain rev range. It pokes its head just at the start of that range but very quickly dissapears now.
255, No budget as I thought this addition would compliment the rest of the system which is great. Hopefully it gets only better with more k's.
Cheers guys.

idk but i reakon those hot dogs wouldnt help the tone??
maybe a proper muffler on the back might sort things out.
as for the H-pipe, ive heard people sware they sound alot beefer/meaty/oldschool rumble.
the catback i have is a Supercat Catback. 2.5inch.. usually with no rear resi. Bought it for $400 so cant complain.
YouTube - Calais exhaust.
going cam and dual 3inch x-force soon.
