Hey All,
After some feedback please guys. I have approx. $1200 sneaky :xmas: dollars for myself and cant decide which would be the best mod to get done. The VE already has a 3" Xforce catback and a MAF tune with SS In/re ductions Growler with 250 rwkw.
The question is should I get 1 3/4 Pacemaker Tri Y's or an OTR (maybe Ramjet or SS) and mafless tune?
I dont think I will be able to get hi-flow cats though ATM as $1200 would be the very limit. Would I be wasting money going the Paceys without hi-flow cats and would I be wasting money going from MAF to mafless?

Post a thread that you want to buy some ve headers. You will get a set under $1000, hunt down some hi flow cats (sureflow is a sponsor here). You might go over your budget by a bit.

You can get paccies off ebay for $850 then add $300 for a pair of 3inch ballistic cats and your laughing. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Holden-VE-V8-Commodore-Pacemaker-Headers-Extractors-/190465964294?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c58a7f906

I recall seeing a set of heads off a VE not that long ago that had headers/exhaust only, had some interesting marking on the valves.
If were me Id find some HSV headers and get the thing tuned

Thanks guys not sure if wanna do this myself especially with the O2 sensors. Im an ex-chippy so not great with cars. I spoke to someone and I may just save up a bit extra and do the cats also and get a touch up to the tune at the same time. Hopefully the pacies wont make the xforce drone too much.
It is a manual, diff gears may be next on the agenda followed by a cam at some stage.
You'd go very close to getting a set of 1 7/8" hurricane headers and 200cpi cats for $1200. Especially if you didn't get them HPC coated.
That's probably the way I'd go.
On the VE you may as well stick with a MAF tune. I have a ramjet OTR and still use a MAF tune as it isn't a restriction. If you do decide to go with headers you will need to go back to your tuner or you will get a light on the dash from the new cats. If he's only doing this, not a re-tune you shouldn't be charged for it.

Maybe you could look at a quality (i.e. proper) OTR that will give you some real gains when you do the exhaust side of things and especially if you're considering installing a cam in the future. You only have to buy quality components once! Do the job right once the first time 'round.
Sorry mate, I'm not a fan of SS-Reductions stuff at all. Been there done that! Their claims re rear wheel gains for their gear are way over the top in my experince.

Do the headers! It will improve the v8 rumble over the cat back alone, and leave the tune til you are finished with mods. Only pay for things once!
Or give me the $1200 to spend on mine! :xmas:

We steadily see around 30-40 rwkw from the tune and Duspeed OTR. I can tune your car remotely and arrange the Duspeed OTR.

VE's often gain around 17rwkw from a full exhaust system and most of that is from the extractors.

Thanks mate but looking for 1 3/4's I think. I spend most of my time daily driving (except for the odd cruise...) so it would be better that way.

Thanks guys. I have spoken to the guys at HT and will probably go the pacies route for now. Thy did the MAF tune before where I gained 20kw and have said that I would be better off going the exhaust over the re-tune and OTR. They did talk me into doing the 200cpi's though.
Will let you know what I picked up when its done.
Cheers

extractors will be the thing to do...as the exhaust is still suffering due to the stock headers, but each to their own
have fun spending lol

Yeah mate am going to do the Pacie headers and 200cpi cats. Originally only wanted to do the headers but got talked into doing the cats as well.
Since its sly Santa money I will have fun as long as the missus doesnt find out... :1peek:
