View Full Version : Do I need a touch up tune?

My HSV LS2 has had a full exhaust and tune performed with a standard VZ airbox. If I was to change the airbox to a Walkinshaw "Growler" for arguments sake, woiuld I need a touch up tune or would the difference be negligeable? I am really going after asthetics rather than chasing the few extra KW's. Would the car run rougher? Would it affect the fuel or timing tables of my existing tune?? Reason I ask is that I think my tuneis locked and my tuner has gone back to Mildura.

If your still running the airflow meter it should be ok, if mafless a quick touch up may be benificial.

I am still running the Maf. Why would this be an issue? Does it self adjust or something similar the fuel tables?

If you want to get the most out of your new air intake, then I would recommend having a touch up tune..

Really it's not going to make much difference to your maf tune. If you were going from a stock airbox to a OTR then I would say it's a different story.

I preferable would go for a touch up tune, if computer is locked than might as well get it unlocked at the same time as well for future. It's the breathing part of your engine and driving around with it running rough won't be good in the long run. Should save the dollars and go for a OTR my advice.

Why would it run rough? I had one of those on my ls2 originally simply because I already had it, it had a gain over the stock airbox and is probably 60% of the way to OTR in performance.
There is no reason to need a retune on a maf tune just fitting a growler, unless you want that last little bit which you say you don't.

That's right, I am not chasing that little extra bit of power, I was just curious if a simple airbox change would affect the behaviour of the current tune. I realise an OTR would probably require a touch up tune due to the extra airflow, but since i don't want that look I was leaning more towards the Growler. Would the ECU reconfigure itself to compensate for this little airflow change, or will it still remain as the original tune was intended? By the way I appreciate the feedback from everyone so far!!!
