Sump Plug Washers Bulk Packs. (Holden Part Number 03536966)

I've been doing my own services almost since new and I bought a bulk pack of sump plug washers when the car was new (about 5 years ago) which cost me about $20 for a pack of 10.... Generally I can get 4 Oil Changes out of one washer before you get a slight leak...

I now find out holden is charging $10 per washer (retail), so it works out about $9 (cheaper) to get a new sump plug bolt with washer. The two parts work out cheaper than it is to buy a single washer (you gotta love spare parts pricing & markups!).

(Holden tells me the normal service practice to replace the bolt & washer with a routine service)

That sounds a bit like a parts rip-off & some services margin stuffing to me....

Has anyone found an equivalent or OEM part replacement for this washer for the die hard DIY crowd?.

I'm down to my last four washers and will get a bulk pack next time I am in the USA if I can't get them locally at a reasonable price..

Any local sources????

how tight are you doing up the sump plug???

i've got 67,000kms on my ute and i've done upward of 15 oil changes since i purchased it without a washer or plug change... never leaked, never dripped oil...?

but, on the spare parts mark-up thingo, Audi were the same when i was working there.
to replace the washer only was more expensive than doing the plug with the washer on it... it seemed like a shame to chuck out a perfectly good plug and washer though, and i thought it was a bit of a rip to the customer to change them every service...

anyway... up-sell, up-sell!!!
that's how the dealers work...

On a side note, the plug that they sell now does not have a magnet
on it. I took the washer off the new plug and put it on my original
plug. The new bolt and washer was only a couple of dollars from
memory. My original washer also lasted a long time, well over 100k.

as above, you cannot get a replacement magnetic plug from holden anymore :-(

G'day all, sorry to bump the ye olde thread but that's probably better than making a new one asking the same thing.

My sump plug was hard to get off yesterday and the bolt is now partly rounded, so I'd like to get a new one, preferably magnetic if the factory one was. Mine never had a washer but sounds like a worthwhile idea too. If anyone can recommend any online supplier for a quality replacement that would be great.

I bought a plug with the rubber washer and magnet from Holden earlier this year or late last year for about $7.

Ive done 225k on my car and still on the original sump plug and oring, I service every 10k (with filter mag) and only have damp spot the size of a 50sent coin covered with a fine layer of dust. so not worried about changing mine, I just dont over tighten the plug, and give it a good clean before reusing.

oh and I've seen in Malz here in perth, a sump plugs that look like my one with the magnet on it and oring seal for $20 something when replacing one for a mate, though he just wanted a normal plug and washer.

Cheers guys, I've ended up buying from powersl*tracing on eBay US. Cost $10 plus postage but at least it's done with.
