Can anyone advise me on what a i should set my tyre pressure to this week at calder its my first time, i currently run them on or around 36-37, and also my launch RPM, i know what its like on the street but not on the track ive had no expereince as yet!
Im running my standard 17" GTS rims and street rubber/ rest of car is also street trim for this week. Any experience/help would be great!

Cheers

GTS 215,

I had my tyres set at around 38psi last time down calder but mine are 18's..

As for RPM launch well thats gonna vary...If i leave any harder that 2500 im in axle tramp territory in the UTE..

Should be able to leave harder in your car..

Tony.

I'd start with 40 psi in the front, drop the rears to 20 psi, small burnout to clean 'em and start with a 2000 rpm launch. Make adjustments from how the car react from there. I've seen 0.3 sec gained by letting 17" tyres down to 18 psi. Have fun
and let us know how you go :burnout:

I used around 17-18 psi in my 17" wheels on the VT.

Seemd to hook up no probs on the majority of runs......occasionally got :burnout: :burnout: ;)

I wouldn't drop them to 20 right away, start at 28 then if that's ok then drop to 25, then to 20. If you go to 20 (especially if they are still cold), you may find youself getting all out of shape half way down the track  It's better to low them slowly.

That said, I ran 13.1 @ 107mph on Street Tyres at 40psi on my last outing to Calder.

And watch your burnouts, the Calder track gets quite warm, so an excessive burnout seems to induce traction problems. A small smokey up to the staging lights worked well you me but YMMV!!!

Is your's a manual? If so between 2500 and 3000 rpm seems to work ok, if you have a decent clutch then try 3500.

The problem with calder is that when you wait 30 minutes plus between runs, there is not a lot of time to practice and try different things. At least at Heathcote you can get plenty of runs back to back (I got 17 on Sunday in 2 hours).

Good Luck

i concur with scud

depends on track temp and stickiness which will also affect which rpm launch sometimes its 2500rpm sometimes ive gone as far as 3500-4000rpm cause i was bogging down at the line

yeah cheers i think judging by all your comments, pretty much its going to be trial and error, and eventually after a few runs even the next few meets after this week its a matter of seeing what works with dropping the pressure and my launch, i mite start small and c how i go around 1,000-15000 and work up, i don't want to try and b hero and drop the Girl high and totally lose it or wheel spin for ever.

The problem with the LS1 is lack of low down torque. Hence there is a fine line between bogging the motor or the other extreme excessive wheelspin, doubly hard to judge with a manual.

I see you have the 5.7 Stroker which has tons of torque at the bottom end, so you may find a lowish rpm launch will work well for you.

Dont they also have a better suspension set up? As in no axle tramp? Plus they are lighter too? Although I had vertually the same power in my old 5 litre VT SS the traction was not too bad in comparison to my Clubbie which is very slippery!
