Hey guys,

Looking at getting the wife's car (2005 Peugeot 206cc - 2 door hard top convertible) resprayed from metallic black to a candy pink or similar colour.

I have called a couple of places from the yellow pages panel beater section and gotten quotes around the $5-6k mark for all exterior plus the sections around boot/bonnet and doors, not full engine bay or car stripped.

I did an internet search but there doesnt seem to be much here in SA, just the other states, was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to get a respray done thats good quality for a daily driver but doesnt need a show quality paint job.

Thanks all.

Price up a full vinyl wrap, that way when you sell the car it won't be a hideous colour that noone wants rather a pristine untouched metallic black.

I also believe it is cheaper.

Your profile says you are in NSW...
Are you in SA or NSW?
If you are in SA I can put you onto a guy in Lonsdale over here.
His name is Gary and he runs a place called "Extensive Restorations"
He does loads of restorations and also car yard work and insurance work. :)
PM me if you want his phone number and I can ask him to look after you.

I'm a painter and even to paint my car cost $1200 just in paint . $5K for a respray especially a pearl colour is average . A GOOD paint job will start at $10K just for prep and application. no body work.

The best option would be the whole car vinyl wrapped , they start at about $2k .

Haha Hadn't even noticed that, updated to SA now. I'll send a PM thanks White.

Whats the deal with the vinyl wrap? That is something I haven't heard of before, google search inc. Not sure the missus will go for it as she likes the shiny pearl look of new paint.

Not fussed about resale value, she plans on keeping it for a work car mainly, and resale value on her model of Peugeot is crap now, only around 10k and not really worth selling.

Hey I wrap cars for a living.

The vinyl will deteriorate in a few years. (i.e 3-4)
the only way to counter this is to put a 3d laminate over the top.
you will find the price to be simular to what you have been quoted adding the laminate. Also the vinyl wont have the paint effect either. It will look flat even with the laminate. I have done many tests & the supplier assures me that you can polish the vinyl to bring it back to life really its b.s.

I was just looking at an aussie site that does this, and it actually looked really impressive. They do drag cars, company vehicles, helmets and all sorts of things.

If it only lasts a few years I'm not sure it will be worth it, although if it is still a decent price and lasts when laminated that could be an option.

The wife actually thought it would be a good idea since you can get a design with graphics etc since she is redoing the car to advertise her business and wouldve needed logos done even after the paint job.

Just dont go for the cheapest price! there are so many grades of vinyl! And many years experience IS NECESSARY.
Also trimming is done on the vehicle and you dont want small supprises on the car when you eventually remove! (scalpal blade cuts. seen it too many times!)

Yeah those pics are similar to the site I was looking at earlier, in pics it looks great, is it really that apparent that its vinyl when seen reasonably close, or is it hard to tell the difference on a quality job?

My car is currently with Australian Crash Repairs, picking it up next week so I can't report on the quality of their work until then. The service is certainly outstanding though - they are all vrey professional, very friendly, and being a BMW preferred repairer they are also used to dealing with fussy clients.

Nice touches include free stone chip touch-ups and full detail on all cars that come in for repairs.

Cheers
