Hey,
Ive posted a few things regarding the 4 point harness in a VY sedan.
But i have solved 3 out of 4 bolts. I got the long eye bolt for the right lap side (wife will pick up the bolt today or tomorrow).

The only thing left is the left side rail. Why did holden use a different bolt for that....

I have to retap the thread. I think its about 7\8mm now but i need to get it for a 11mm(7/16") eye bolt.

I am going at lunch time today to the hardware shop to buy the tools to do it.

Ive read a bit about retapping and turning it a bit then pulling it out and wd40 etc....

Any tips? and with the angle of where the thread is, is it going to be very diffucult and need a lot of effort?

Mate the first thing to check is that there will be enough meat left in the captive nut once you have retapped it, often they are not much bigger than a standard nut for the given bolt size if ya know what I mean. not much use going to all the trouble of fitting a harness if the eyebolts pull out if you stack.

I simply drilled a hole in the transmission tunnel, in line with the rhs lower seat belt mount, and used a plate in the tunnel.

I know Drew (VYSHSV8) has re-tapped a few, maybe throw him a PM? But going from 7mm to 11mm is a fair old stretch! Are they all that big? I thought you could a much closer sized eye bolt just was a different thread, ie imperial instead of metric or vice-versa.

hey,
Ive sent VYSHSV8 a pm. when i say 7mm that is me measuring with a tap measure the bolt. So prob not the most acurate reading.

I went and bought the hand tap to suit a 7/16" (11mm)

Ive looked at using a different eye bolt but the ones ive found are "tensial" or whatever the word is. so not strong enough and i dont want them to snap if something were to happen.

I was orginally just going to clip underneath the seat as i was still gonig to wear my normal seatbelt but now i am doing it propley.

Not a big fan of drilling in the tranny tunnel. 1 i dont want the bolt just to stick out then not be able to cover it and 2nd i would have no idea what i'm doing.lol

I did the same.

i retapped it last nite. First the tap seemed to big as about 5mm just slide in but then it worked out ok. I was able to put the eye bolt in the seat rail pretty tight.

I then gave it a few good tugs and no movement so am happy.

Went for a spin with the harness on and what a difference.(just around my area as i know its hard to look over your shoulder etc) It really does hold you in your seat, but some getting used too. Not the most comfortable thing but when flying round a track it will be a lot better.

I have my seat belt in and then i went to adjust the harness so i took my belt off then i thought i should drive to a quieter street (about 50m away) and the seat belt beeping came on.. lol... i was about 90% sure i still would wear my seat belt as well round the track but not i guess im 100% sure.

track day here i come
